In summary, algebra is a branch of mathematics that deals with symbols and equations to express relationships between quantities. A variable in algebra is a letter used to represent an unknown value, while an equation is a statement that shows the equality of two expressions. To solve for a variable in an algebraic equation, one must isolate the variable using inverse operations. Algebra is important because it helps solve real-world problems and serves as a foundation for other fields of study.

I can't seem to see how this simplifies, having an algebra brain fart

[tex]2(2-x)^2-x(2-x)^2- 2/3 (2-x)^3[/tex]

[tex](2-x)(2-x)^2- 2/3 (2-x)^3[/tex]

[tex]1/3(2-x)^3[/tex]

Let's replace (2-x) with A.
Then we have 2A^2 - xA^2 - (2/3)A^3
Then we get (2-x) A^2 - (2/3)A^3
since A=2-x, this gives
(A^3) - (2/3)A^3 = (1/3)A^3 ===> now just replace A with 2-x

FAQ: How do I simplify this algebraic expression with a brain fart?

What is algebra?

Algebra is a branch of mathematics that deals with symbols and the rules for manipulating those symbols to solve equations and express relationships between quantities.

What is a variable in algebra?

A variable in algebra is a letter or symbol used to represent an unknown quantity or value. It is typically represented by a letter such as x, y, or z.

What is an equation in algebra?

An equation in algebra is a mathematical statement that shows the equality of two expressions. It typically includes variables, numbers, and mathematical operators such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

How do you solve for a variable in an algebraic equation?

To solve for a variable in an algebraic equation, you need to isolate the variable on one side of the equals sign. This is done by using inverse operations, or operations that undo each other, on both sides of the equation until the variable is alone on one side.

Why is algebra important?

Algebra is important because it helps us understand and solve real-world problems involving quantities and relationships. It is also the foundation for more advanced branches of mathematics and other fields such as science, engineering, and economics.
