In summary, a previous pope had also handed down a not guilty verdict, but due to double jeopardy laws, anyone in the profession needs as many not guilty verdicts as possible. As a result, the speaker exonerates the Pope for any involvement in Christmas carols. They now plan to spend their life searching for the real murderer. It is also mentioned that the speaker still holds Vader responsible for the Emperor's death.

I think a previous pope handed down the same verdict. However, anyone in my profession needs as many not guilty verdicts as possible on account of the double jeopardy laws. So in appreciation, I exonerate the Pope for all those Christmas carols. Now I'm going to spend the rest of my life looking for the real murderer.

And he still holds Vader responsible for the Emperor's death. Self defense, people! Kind of.

FAQ: How Do Legal Acquittals and Historical Judgments Compare?

What are the 13 indictments and why were there no convictions?

The 13 indictments refer to the charges brought against 13 Russian nationals and 3 Russian entities by the United States Department of Justice in relation to interference in the 2016 US presidential election. These individuals and entities were accused of spreading disinformation and propaganda to influence the outcome of the election.

What evidence supported the 13 indictments?

The evidence presented in the indictments included emails, social media posts, and financial transactions that allegedly showed a coordinated effort to interfere in the election. The indictments also cited the use of fake personas and organizations to spread false information and manipulate public opinion.

Why were there no convictions despite the indictments?

As of now, there have been no convictions in relation to the 13 indictments. This is because the individuals and entities named in the indictments are not currently in the United States and are unlikely to face trial. Additionally, the Russian government has denied any involvement and is not likely to cooperate with the US justice system.

What impact did the 13 indictments have on the 2016 US presidential election?

It is difficult to determine the exact impact of the 13 indictments on the election. However, it is believed that the spread of false information and propaganda may have influenced some voters and contributed to the overall divisive political climate during the election.

What measures are being taken to prevent similar interference in future elections?

The US government, as well as social media platforms, have taken steps to prevent foreign interference in future elections. This includes increased cybersecurity measures, stricter policies for political advertising, and increased scrutiny of foreign entities and their online activities. There are also ongoing investigations and efforts to strengthen election security and integrity.
