How Do You Calculate the Number of Footings Based on Soil Strength?

In summary, the person is asking for help with a civil engineering question. They have asked their brother who is a PhD student in civil engineering but he is too busy to help. They have attached the question and a list of equations. They suggest using the bearing capacity equation to find the strength of the soil and then calculating the number of footings needed for a given load using this value.

hi all
this must be a easy question for the civil people ...can any1 please help as i got no civil background. I've asked my brother who's doing phd in civil but he's too busy on his work.
cheers heaps

Homework Statement

i've attached the question ;)

Homework Equations

ive compiled a list of equations and attached it.

The Attempt at a Solution

i think we need to find the strength of the soil first then use it to calculate the number of footings.

to do this we need to use the bearing capacity equation. use the soil properties and the depth of the footings to calculate the bearing capacity of the soil. then we can use that value to calculate the number of footings needed for a given load.

FAQ: How Do You Calculate the Number of Footings Based on Soil Strength?

1. What is civil engineering?

Civil engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the built environment, including buildings, roads, bridges, dams, and other infrastructure.

2. What are the common topics covered in civil engineering homework?
