How Does the Angle of Incline Affect Train Motion Calculations?

In summary, a train with a mass of 1000kg is moving on a straight track at an angle y to the horizontal. It is being propelled by a variable force, P, and a constant force, R. During the first stage of motion, the train is moving horizontally with an acceleration of 0.25 ms-2. In this stage, P is 1200 and R is 950. To find the value of R, the equation 1200 - R - sin y = 1000 x 0.25 is used, and it is determined that R = 950. This means that y must be less than 0.5.

Homework Statement

A train moves on a straight track at y degrees to the horizontal. The mass of the train is 1000kg. during its motion the train moves under the action of a variable propulsive force, p Newtons, and a constant resultant forceR Newtons

(a) during the first stage of motion, the train moves horizontally with acceleration 0.25 ms-2. In this stage the value of P is 1200 sow that R = 950.

Homework Equations

F=ma mabey

The Attempt at a Solution

resolved the force in direction of train got;

1200 - R - sinyo = 1000 x 0.25
950 = R + sinyo

so how can R = 950, is sinyo taken as < 0.5??
help please!

In part (a) of the question, when it says the train is moving horizontally, it means that y=0o.

FAQ: How Does the Angle of Incline Affect Train Motion Calculations?

What is the coefficient of friction?

The coefficient of friction is a dimensionless quantity that measures the resistance of two surfaces to sliding against each other.

How is the coefficient of friction determined?

The coefficient of friction is determined by dividing the force required to move an object over a surface by the weight of the object. It can also be calculated by measuring the slope of the force versus displacement graph during a sliding experiment.

What factors affect the coefficient of friction?

The coefficient of friction is affected by the types of materials in contact, the roughness of the surfaces, the amount of force applied, and the presence of any lubricants.

What are the different types of coefficients of friction?

There are two types of coefficients of friction: static and kinetic. Static friction refers to the initial resistance to motion when an object is at rest, while kinetic friction refers to the resistance to motion when an object is already in motion.

How is the coefficient of friction used in real life?

The coefficient of friction is used in various industries, such as engineering, automotive, and sports, to determine the suitability of materials for specific applications, to improve the efficiency of machines, and to enhance athletic performance.
