In summary, the conversation discussed a locked thread and the process for reporting concerns to mentors. The option to contact the mentor through the "staff" link was mentioned, as well as using the "report" button on the last post of the thread. It was also mentioned that mentors and the admin will view the report, and that threads have been reopened in the past.

Recently a thread was locked and I thought it shouldn't have been. I read the guidelines and it told me to contact the mentor, but I don't know who that is. So now what?

The "staff" link at the top of each page links to

Maybe a better option would be to go to the last post in thread, and click on "report" at the left. In the report box, outline your concerns. Your report will be viewable by all mentors.

As George has said, use the REPORT post button and write your reasons there. All the mentors and the admin will see your report. There have been threads that had been reopened before, so it is not unusual for us to do that.

FAQ: How to discuss locking of a thread?

What is the purpose of locking a thread?

Locking a thread refers to the act of preventing other users from commenting or adding to a discussion thread. This is typically done to preserve the current state of the conversation and prevent it from being derailed or disrupted.

How do you lock a thread?

The process of locking a thread may vary depending on the platform or forum being used. Generally, there should be an option or setting to lock a thread. This can usually be found in the thread's settings or by contacting a moderator.

When should a thread be locked?

A thread should be locked when it has served its purpose or when it is becoming unproductive or disruptive. This could be due to excessive trolling, off-topic comments, or a violation of forum guidelines. It is ultimately up to the discretion of the moderator or thread owner to determine when a thread should be locked.

Can a locked thread be unlocked?

Yes, a locked thread can be unlocked by a moderator or the thread owner. This can be done if there is a need for further discussion or if the thread's purpose has changed. However, it is important to consider the reasons why the thread was locked in the first place before unlocking it.

What are the alternatives to locking a thread?

If a thread is becoming unproductive or disruptive, there are alternatives to locking it. These may include removing problematic comments, temporarily hiding the thread, or redirecting the conversation to a more appropriate forum. It is important to address the issue in a way that still allows for constructive discussion.
