In summary, PolyAluminum Chloride (PAC) is a chemical compound used as a coagulant in water treatment processes. It works by forming a dense floc in the water and has a positive charge to attract and neutralize impurities. Some benefits of using PAC include its effectiveness, production of less sludge, and ability to remove a wider range of impurities. It is also safe for consumption, approved by regulatory agencies, and produced by reacting aluminum hydroxide with hydrochloric acid.

How can I create poly aluminum chloride out of aluminum chloride? I think I need to make it into hydrochloiric acid first but to mix it safely with aluminum I need to some how do change my aluminum into something else or it may explode due to the hydrogen.

I've seen alumina or aluminum trihydroxide used with hydrochloric acid. That gives you great control over the stoichiometry.

FAQ: How to Safely Create PolyAluminum Chloride from Aluminum Chloride?

What is PolyAluminum Chloride (PAC)?

PolyAluminum Chloride (PAC) is a chemical compound that is used as a coagulant in water treatment processes. It is a highly effective and efficient way to remove impurities from water, making it safe for consumption.

How does PAC work?

PAC works by forming a dense floc, or a cluster of particles, in the water. This floc then settles to the bottom of the treatment tank, taking impurities with it. PAC also has a positive charge, which helps it to attract and neutralize negatively charged particles in the water.

What are the benefits of using PAC in water treatment?

Using PAC in water treatment has several benefits. It is more effective than traditional coagulants such as aluminum sulfate, it produces less sludge, and it can remove a wider range of impurities. It also has a longer shelf life and is more stable in a wider range of pH levels.

Is PAC safe for consumption?

Yes, PAC is safe for consumption. It is approved by regulatory agencies such as the FDA and EPA for use in water treatment. However, it is important to follow proper dosage and handling guidelines to ensure its safe and effective use.

How is PAC produced?

PAC is produced by reacting aluminum hydroxide with hydrochloric acid. The resulting solution is then processed and dried to form a powdered or liquid form of PAC. The production process may vary slightly depending on the specific manufacturer, but the basic steps remain the same.
