In summary, a penny barge is a small, floating vessel made out of pennies and other materials that is used to carry small loads across bodies of water. The main materials needed to build a penny barge include pennies, a base material such as foam or wood, a waterproof sealant, and any additional decorations or features desired. The best design for a penny barge will depend on its intended use, but generally a flat and stable base with a sturdy structure and evenly distributed weight will work best. To make a penny barge float, the weight of the pennies and other materials must be evenly distributed on a lightweight and buoyant base material. If i were to use a square shaped aluminum foil. What would be the best design for a penny barge. I was thinking a boatshaped one, but i realized its hard to fold a boat without retangular paper

Who is going to load the pennies onto the barge? You might be able to get away with a really flimsy barge if you are able to add the pennies strategically to spread the load.

I am always interested in exploring and experimenting with different designs and materials to optimize the performance of various objects. In this case, the best design for a penny barge would depend on several factors such as the weight of the penny, the size and shape of the aluminum foil, and the specific goal of the barge.

If using a square shaped aluminum foil, the best design for a penny barge would likely be a flat-bottomed boat shape with raised sides. This design would provide stability and support for the penny while also allowing for the weight to be evenly distributed. However, if the goal is to make the barge float for a longer period of time, a more streamlined boat shape with a pointed front and tapered sides may be more effective in reducing drag and increasing the buoyancy of the barge.

It is important to consider the properties of the materials being used and how they will affect the design. For example, aluminum foil is lightweight and flexible, but it may not be as strong as other materials. This means that the design should be sturdy enough to support the weight of the penny without collapsing or sinking.

In addition, the folding technique used to create the boat shape is also crucial. While it may be challenging to fold a boat shape with rectangular paper, there are various techniques that can be used to create a boat shape with a square piece of aluminum foil. For example, folding the foil diagonally to create a triangle and then folding the sides up to create a boat shape can be an effective method.

Ultimately, the best design for a penny barge would require experimentation and testing to determine the most effective shape and folding technique for the specific materials and goals. I encourage you to continue exploring and experimenting with different designs to find the best solution for your penny barge.

FAQ: I was just wondering (not a hw question) whats the best design for penny barge?

What is a penny barge?

A penny barge is a small, floating vessel made out of pennies and other materials that is used to carry small loads across bodies of water.

What are the materials needed to build a penny barge?

The main materials needed to build a penny barge include pennies, a base material such as foam or wood, a waterproof sealant, and any additional decorations or features desired.

What is the best design for a penny barge?

The best design for a penny barge will depend on its intended use. Generally, a flat and stable base with a sturdy structure and evenly distributed weight will work best for carrying small loads.

How do you make a penny barge float?

The key to making a penny barge float is to evenly distribute the weight of the pennies and any additional materials on the base material. The base material should also be lightweight and buoyant to help keep the barge afloat.

Can you make a penny barge that can carry a person?

Technically, it is possible to build a penny barge that can carry a person. However, this would require a much larger and more complex design, as well as a significant amount of pennies and other materials. It is not recommended to use a penny barge for this purpose.
