Incline question with a moving cart and a pebble is launched...?

Homework Statement

A cart is rolling down an incline with angle thetha and the cart's speed is Vo when a pebble in the cart is launched. When the ball returns to the same initial distance above incline, will it fall into the car, to the right or to the left of the cart?

Homework Equations

NO EQUATIONS

The Attempt at a Solution

It shouldn't fall into the car.. because it is accelerating. But does it land to right or to the left?

It will depend on the angle of the incline and the speed of the cart. If the incline is low, then the ball will land to the right of the cart. However, if the incline is steep, the ball will land to the left of the cart.

FAQ: Incline question with a moving cart and a pebble is launched ?

How does the angle of incline affect the distance the pebble travels?

The angle of incline can greatly affect the distance the pebble travels. As the angle increases, the force of gravity acting on the pebble in the direction of the incline decreases, resulting in a longer distance traveled.

How does the speed of the cart affect the trajectory of the pebble?

The speed of the cart can affect the trajectory of the pebble in two ways. Firstly, a faster moving cart will result in the pebble being launched at a higher velocity, which can result in a longer distance traveled. Secondly, a faster moving cart can also cause the pebble to have a higher trajectory, resulting in a higher peak height and potentially a longer distance traveled.

How does the mass of the pebble affect its trajectory?

The mass of the pebble can affect its trajectory in two ways. Firstly, a heavier pebble will require more force to be launched at the same velocity as a lighter pebble, resulting in a shorter distance traveled. Secondly, a heavier pebble will also experience more air resistance, which can affect its trajectory and potentially result in a shorter distance traveled.

How does the surface of the incline affect the distance the pebble travels?

The surface of the incline can affect the distance the pebble travels in several ways. A smoother surface will result in less friction, allowing the cart to travel at a faster speed and potentially resulting in a longer distance traveled. Additionally, a rougher surface can cause the pebble to bounce or roll, affecting its trajectory and potentially resulting in a shorter distance traveled.

How does air resistance affect the motion of the cart and the pebble?

Air resistance can greatly affect the motion of the cart and the pebble. As the cart moves, it will experience air resistance, which can slow it down and affect its velocity. Additionally, the pebble will also experience air resistance, which can affect its trajectory and potentially result in a shorter distance traveled.
