In summary: Nope, your chances are much slimmer. College provides you with the tools and resources to improve your life, regardless of your employment status.

Then what's the point in going to college?
I mean obviously you need to support yourself and I know for sure if I don't finish my degree I won't be able to... it's just that... I thought the whole point in furthering your education as much as you can was just that... to make yourself more competitive, get a better job and make more money...

?

College isn't about money, it's about furthering your education. Do studies show you can get a better job with a college degree? Yup. Should you be going to college just so you can get a better job? No. They have trade schools for that.

If you're going to college just to make money, just drop out and go become a plumber, look up how much a plumber make after being in the market for 5-7 years. Plus, plumbers are always in demand as society continually needs pipes fixed :), so there is that for job security.

Of course money can make you happy, that's not even the saying, which is, just a saying.

Of course getting a degree gives you a competitive edge, which can result in a better job, and allow you to make more money.

This thread is pointless. If you don't feel there is a point in staying in college, that's a decision you need to make, we can't know or fix what's going on inside your head.

Stop and think about the alternative to getting a college degree. Being a dropout. You think that's going to improve your chances at being employed?

FAQ: Is College Worth It Beyond Just Making Money?

What scientific evidence supports the claim that money won't make you happy?

There have been numerous studies on the relationship between money and happiness. One meta-analysis found that there is a positive correlation between income and life satisfaction, but it is relatively small. Other studies have shown that once basic needs are met, additional money does not significantly increase happiness.

Why do people often believe that money will make them happy?

This belief is likely due to societal and cultural norms that equate wealth with success and happiness. Media and advertising also often promote the idea that having more money will lead to a better life. Additionally, the pursuit of money and material possessions can provide a temporary sense of happiness, but it is often short-lived.

Are there any exceptions to the notion that money won't make you happy?

There may be some situations where money can lead to increased happiness, such as when it is used to meet basic needs, improve living conditions, or provide opportunities for personal growth. However, these effects are often temporary and can be influenced by other factors such as personal values and mindset.

How can individuals increase their happiness without relying on money?

Research has shown that factors such as strong relationships, a sense of purpose, and engaging in activities that bring joy and fulfillment are more strongly correlated with long-term happiness than money. Practicing gratitude, mindfulness, and self-care can also contribute to overall well-being and happiness without relying on material possessions.

Is there a way to use money to increase happiness effectively?

Some experts suggest using money to invest in experiences rather than material possessions, as experiences have been found to have a more lasting impact on happiness. Additionally, using money to help others or contribute to a cause can also lead to a sense of purpose and fulfillment, which can increase overall happiness. It is important to consider individual values and goals when deciding how to use money in a way that aligns with personal happiness.
