Who would be the better candidate for presidency in 2008 and why?
I'd say the Republicans have less candidates to consider, and even less now with Frist removed--and Jeb wouldn't get enough votes to win. It is more wide open for the Dems. The poll, conducted Friday through Sunday, found 40% of registered Democratic voters said they would be most likely to support Clinton. As she has done in some previous polling, Clinton eclipsed the combined support for her closest competitors: 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry at 16%, 2004 vice presidential candidate John Edwards at 15% and Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware at 9%.
On the Republican side, Giuliani led Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., among registered voters 27% to 24%. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who has said she is not interested in running, received 19%. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee, who has traveled to New Hampshire and South Carolina, both early primary states, ran fourth with 9%.

Republicans include Chuck Hagel, Mitt Romney, Bill Frist, Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabe
Democrats include Mark Warner, Bill Richardson, Evan Bayh and Joe Biden. Maybe even Eliot Spitzer, though he'll probabally abstain from running until at least 2012, if a Republican gets elected.
The Ahmanson family sold their shares in American Information Systems to the McCarthy Group and the World Herald Company, Inc. Republican Senator Chuck Hagel disclosed in public documents that he was the Chairman of American Information Systems and claimed between a $1 to 5 million investment in the McCarthy Group. In 1997, American Information Systems purchased Business Records Corp. (BRC), formerly Texas-based election company Cronus Industries, to become ES&S. One of the BRC owners was Carolyn Hunt of the right-wing Hunt oil family, which supplied much of the original money for the Council on National Policy.
When I said "great contenders," I didn't necessarily mean people who would be good presidents, just people who would garner support and be fun to see in the competition. Though what's so bad about Biden?BobG said:Gingrich and Biden
Actually, while I almost never agree with Biden, I still can't help but like listening to him. He'd be a tough candidate.
I don't like Frist that much, either, but he would have been a good candidate before this last year in the Senate. His chances took a serious hit when McCain stole unofficial leadership of the Senate from him.
Yeah, well, no one's perfect...pattylou said:I'd vote for Mccain before Hagel. I think I'd vote for McCain before Hillary.
Hagel used to be CEO for one of the electronic voting machines. He didn't disclose that, he left the company, he ran for senator - and won although he was the underdog.
Kerry lost to George W. Bush. There is no way the Republicans will chose someone who could be more hated in 2008 than Bush was in 2004, and thus, no chance Kerry could get enough anti-Republican votes to win.SOS2008 said:Democrats

So he's southern, charismatic and good-looking. What, besides those two things, are good about him?pattylou said:Why does John Edwards suck? He's certainly got the charisma/southern thing going for him.

Nothing! He is inexperienced in politics and should not run for President.wasteofo2 said:So he's southern, charismatic and good-looking. What, besides those two things, are good about him?
(Someone said he was bad. I'd like to know why. That was the basis for my comment.)wasteofo2 said:So he's southern, charismatic and good-looking. What, besides those two things, are good about him?
I don't think Jeb Bush is a very likely candidate.z-component said:Condoleezza Rice isn't on the poll mainly because she hasn't expressed interest in running. I chose three democrats and three republicans that have a good possibility of running.
