Happy Birthday! Enjoy your day!
I have a friend who was born on Christmas. His parents named him Noel, probably just to rub it in.GeorginaS said:Best wishes Borek! Wow. You two really get all of the year's festivities over with in one go, don't you? Christmas, Marzena's birthday, your birthday, New Year, done.

Good thing that we don't celebrate name days, my name day would the day before my birthday.
What happens to people whose name does not have an assigned name day? People who are named Peaches, Rocket, Piper Maru, or Tiger Lily Heavenly Hiraani..
I have two days?? Too bad that May 4th is the WWII National Memorial day, so also not the perfect day for a party. I'll stick with one birthday party thenBorek said:Some ar eless lucky than others. Could be there is more than one name day for you - Polish wikipedia lists May 4th and Aug 27th.
Name day is apparently an Eastern European custom, and as far as I can tell, it has to do with Saint Days and those who have the same name, as in Michael, John (Ivan), Mary, Peter, Paul, . . . . , i.e. christian names. I think it is more a tradition in Eastern Orthodox rather than Roman Catholic, but perhaps there are proximal influences.GeorginaS said:So, Borek, what does "Name Day" mean?

The "Happy Birthday Celebrate Today" song was written by Patty and Mildred Hill in 1893. Originally titled "Good Morning to All", it was first published in a songbook for teachers. The lyrics were changed to "Happy Birthday" in the early 1900s and the song became popular for celebrating birthdays.
In 2016, a federal judge ruled that the copyright to the "Happy Birthday Celebrate Today" song was invalid, making it a public domain song. This means that anyone can use the song without having to pay royalties.
Before the copyright was ruled invalid, the song was owned by Warner/Chappell Music and they required a license for public performances of the song. However, since the copyright is now invalid, no license is needed to sing the song in public.
The "Happy Birthday Celebrate Today" song has been translated into at least 18 different languages, including Spanish, French, German, and Mandarin Chinese.
There are many alternative versions of the "Happy Birthday Celebrate Today" song, including different melodies and lyrics. Some popular versions include "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" and "Happy Happy Birthday to You".
