Is it possible to control machines with our thoughts?

In summary, there have been successful attempts to transform nerve signals into electric impulses and vice versa. However, finding information on this topic can be challenging. As for implanting devices like calculators, dictionaries, or mobile phones into human heads, operating machines by thought, and keywords used to describe this concept, there have been discussions and studies on these topics. Some recommended resources for further reading, listening, or watching are provided, such as the Brown University website, articles from PLOS Biology and PLOS One, and a TED Talk by Christopher DeCharms.

i know that there have been certain success in transforming nerve to elevtric impulses in both directions. it seems to be really hard to find anything on that topic.

have we managed to implant a calculator or a dictionary, or a mobile phone in human head yet?
can we operate machines by thought?

what keywords are used to describe this (so that I can skan internet for this)
there have probably been topics in this forum can someone direct me
are there good material to read/listen/watch/

thx in advance

FAQ: Is it possible to control machines with our thoughts?

What is a nerve?

A nerve is a bundle of specialized cells called neurons that transmit signals throughout the body.

What is an electric impulse?

An electric impulse, also known as an action potential, is a sudden change in the electrical charge of a neuron that allows it to transmit signals.

How do nerves convert signals into electric impulses?

Nerves have specialized structures called synapses that allow them to convert chemical signals from other neurons into electrical impulses.

What role do nerves play in the body?

Nerves play a crucial role in the body by allowing communication between different parts of the body, allowing us to move, feel sensations, and carry out bodily functions.

How does nerve damage affect the transmission of electric impulses?

Nerve damage can disrupt the transmission of electric impulses, leading to problems with movement, sensation, and other bodily functions. This can be caused by injury, illness, or degenerative conditions.
