In summary, PF Prime will replace PF Classic, and Inline TeX doesn't look so hot in it because the regular font is smaller.

Wow, it only took like two weeks for people to notice it

Some buttons are still being worked on and some template mods.

PF Prime will replace PF Classic.

Yeah, Classic has become archaic. Its reminiscent of the early 90's compared to this fancy new one. I must say, you made a believer out of me! GOOD JOB GREG! I think it is a more suitable transition from class to prime to nexus.

Hey wow, there are themes!

*changes to prime*

It's not that! We are just getting used to it looking different every few days. :approve:

I Like it!

I never realized that it existed, because I never look at the bottom of the screen. I just switched to see what it's like, and it seems very nice. I am, however, going to stick with Nexus.

You can see people's join date in PF prime!(that's how I discovered it while I wanted to answer someone's question!)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I like the colors in classic and also that it doesn't look like a star trek forum or something to that effect.

If you look at a variety of Star Trek forums (just do a google search), you'll see they all look a lot more like the Classic skin. The Prime skin is intended to address the concerns some folks had with usability (like removing flash and a lot of other potentially distracting details, like extra borders and icons) while keeping the appearance more consistent across the skins so that Greg can more easily update things without having to support two completely different skins (like when creating guru badges). I think the only concern that was expressed with the Nexus skin that has not yet been addressed in the Prime skin is the font size.

It's a fact of life on the web, forums change their look from time to time, and with so many users, not everyone can be happy with the colors, because color preferences are an individual thing. I think it's great that Greg is willing to provide more than one option for those who have some problems with using Flash or find some of the decorative borders and icons distracting. I don't think I've ever seen another forum that gives you choices between skins.

As long as the text remains readable I'm happy. Maybe slightly annoyed by the colors I might not like but still on the happy side. I've seen plenty of fora with multiple skins. And at those I have fanatically opposed introduction of new skins and the removal of the old ones. hmm... I'm sensing a pattern of some sort here.

Glad that we're going to get rid of PF classic forever! :-p I always feel cold whenever I switch to that old skin and I get the feeling that all ordinary members are PF admin.(since evryone's name is written in bold.)

ok I know I don't have to switch to the old skin if I don't like it!

I only noticed it because I went to switch to PF Classic.

FYI, Inline TeX doesn't look so hot in PF Prime, because the regular font is smaller.

PF Prime will replace PF Classic.

Yes, that's one thing that still looks problematic with PF Prime, the font is too small (it looks like the font that was initially used with the Nexus skin before it was "released to the public"). I'd vote to make the font in PF Prime even larger than in Nexus for those who have sufficient eyesight difficulties to require larger text for reading. I've been periodically switching over to it just to see how things look with it and to make sure there aren't any problems that were overlooked. I think Greg has done a good job of addressing the various concerns folks raised in feedback over the Nexus skin by creating the Prime skin without having to continue to support two completely different forum formats.

I noticed one bug in Prime. I'm not sure if you already found it and plan to fix it, but after the "is Online" message under member info. there's a colon instead of a period. Unless you intended to put that.

ooo.. I'm trying this out now :bugeye:

  • #19
I must say, I do like it better than the nexus. I still have the soft spot for the classic, but this will do nicely. Thanks for the comprimise Greg.

This is working very nicely! Very easy to read, and I don't half to scroll to see the whole page!

I like the join date too.

I noticed that there are no links to journals or blogs, but that the member list is back, which I've missed.

I know that the New skin will fix some problems but is it possible to create a skin that whould be similar to PF Classic but it has some changes to it to fix the problems?I'am use to PF Classic it's easier to read.

  • #24
The idea is that PF Prime will be similar to PF Nexus, but addresses those readability issues. Greg doesn't plan on keeping PF Classic around because it's too different from Nexus, so is hard to support both. I see the font was adjusted in PF Prime today (I'm using it now). I really don't see any problems with reading it. Even since switching to Nexus, I honestly have found it easier to read...I spend a lot of time at PF (if you couldn't tell) and have found it easier on my eyes to use the new skin rather than Classic.

You only say that because you've been here two years

Wow... I just changed back to the classic skin for the first time since the change. I had almost forgotten what it was like. I do kinda miss the blue. The PF Prime skin is nice but I think I like Nexus better.

I didn't like prime that much. I am too used to nexus now :|
