Has anyone here competed in the tough math competition? How would it compare to other competitions, say IMO or USAMO? Is it greater in difficulty?
The Putnam Math Competition is an annual mathematics competition for undergraduate students in the United States and Canada. It was first held in 1938 and is organized by the Mathematical Association of America.
Any undergraduate student at a college or university in the United States or Canada is eligible to participate in the Putnam Math Competition. There are no age restrictions or prerequisites for participation.
The Putnam Math Competition consists of two 3-hour sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Each session has six problems that cover a wide range of mathematical topics. Participants can earn up to 10 points per problem, with a maximum score of 120 points.
The Putnam Math Competition is a written exam that takes place on a single day in December. Participants are only allowed to use pen, pencil, and scratch paper during the competition. No calculators, books, or electronic devices are permitted.
To prepare for the Putnam Math Competition, it is recommended to practice solving challenging mathematical problems and familiarize yourself with the types of questions that may be asked. You can also participate in math clubs or study groups to discuss solutions and strategies with other students.
