Is the universe expanding or being pulled?

In summary, scientists have observed that the universe is expanding, as evidenced by the redshift of light from distant galaxies. This expansion is believed to be driven by dark energy, a mysterious force that counteracts the pull of gravity. While gravity can cause objects to be pulled towards each other, the expansion of the universe is occurring on a much larger scale and at an accelerated rate. This suggests that the universe is not being pulled towards a central point, but rather is expanding in all directions. Further research is still being conducted to better understand the mechanics of this expansion and the role of dark energy in shaping the universe.

Welcome to the PF.

** The New Member Introduction forum is for brief introductions only, not for technical questions.

** The PF does now allow speculation or personal theory development. Please re-read the PF rules under INFO at the top of the page.

** It's fine to ask curious questions. But it's important to do some reading first, and then post your questions here in the appropriate technical forum along with the links to what you have been reading. That will help us to understand the level that you have been researching your questions, and will help to guide us how best to answer your questions.

Thanks.
