In summary, Latex typeset is a document preparation system that uses markup language for creating high-quality documents. It is different from other document editing software as it offers precise control over formatting and is commonly used in the scientific and academic communities. Latex can be used for non-technical documents, but may require additional learning. It does not require programming knowledge and is available for free on multiple operating systems.

I haven't been on this site for a long time.

Is Latex typeset a feature of physics forums or do I have to download it onto my computer?

You don't need to download anything! You can view LaTeX here without downloading anything and you can type LaTeX by putting everything between [ itex] [/ itex] blocks (without the spaces).

See https://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=386951 for more information.
