LC circuit with air core inductor

In summary, an LC circuit with an air core inductor is an electrical circuit that uses a capacitor and inductor with an air core to store and exchange energy between electric and magnetic fields. When an electric current flows through the circuit, the energy oscillates between the two fields, resulting in a resonant frequency determined by the capacitance and inductance values. This type of circuit has various applications in electronic devices and has advantages such as lower resistance, higher Q factor, and no magnetic saturation.

Hi,

I was just wondering if someone could point in the right direction to find formulas to calculate the natural resonant frequency of an LC oscillator circuit that uses and air core coil rather than a metal one.

Thanks :-)

Its the same formula. Makes no difference whether the coil is air core or ferrite. Inductance is inductance.

Maybe the OP is wondering how to wind an air core inductor in order to get to a target inductance.

FAQ: LC circuit with air core inductor

What is an LC circuit with an air core inductor?

An LC circuit with an air core inductor is a type of electrical circuit that consists of a capacitor and an inductor with an air core. The capacitor and inductor are connected in parallel, and the circuit is used to store and exchange energy between the electric and magnetic fields.

How does an LC circuit with an air core inductor work?

When an electric current flows through the circuit, the capacitor stores energy in the form of an electric field. As the current continues to flow, the energy is transferred to the inductor, creating a magnetic field. This process repeats itself, with the energy oscillating back and forth between the electric and magnetic fields, resulting in a resonant frequency.

What is the resonant frequency of an LC circuit with an air core inductor?

The resonant frequency of an LC circuit with an air core inductor is determined by the capacitance and inductance values of the components. It can be calculated using the formula f = 1/(2π√LC), where f is the resonant frequency, L is the inductance, and C is the capacitance.

What are the applications of an LC circuit with an air core inductor?

LC circuits with air core inductors are used in a variety of electronic devices, including radio receivers and transmitters, filters, and oscillators. They are also used in power supplies and electrical power transmission systems to regulate voltage and current.

What are the advantages of using an air core inductor in an LC circuit?

An air core inductor has several advantages over other types of inductors, such as iron core or ferrite core. It has a lower resistance, which reduces energy losses and allows for higher frequencies. It also has a higher Q factor, which means it can store more energy for longer periods of time. Additionally, air core inductors do not suffer from magnetic saturation, making them more stable and reliable.
