When I was a child, I watched a movie about an elderly university professor who lost his job as a professor and became homeless and lived on the streets. A young guy was friends with this university professor. The elder professor might have been the young guy's mentor. After the elder university professor lost his job as a professor, he got a new job doing manual labor. Then the former professor got fired from his job doing manual labor because he was too old and didn't have a strong enough back and/or the energy to pull his weight. When the former professor got fired from his manual labor job, he begged his boss not to fire him, but the boss fired him anyway. The boss gave the elderly former professor some severance pay when he fired him. When the former professor got fired from his manual labor job, winter was coming. The young guy was looking for a elderly former university professor because the young guy wanted to give him a blanket to stay warm. By the time the young guy found the former university professor out on the streets, the former university professor had died of exposure. The movie might have been set in Chicago. IIRC, this was a made for tv movie. I believe I watched the movie sometime between 1992-1995. I would really like to find this movie and watch it again on youtube.

I don't remember the names of any of the actors in the movie.

There was a movie titled "From Homeless to Harvard". Well, this movie was kind of the opposite. This movie was kind of like from Harvard to Homeless, but that is not the title of the movie.

Does anyone have any idea about what the title is of the movie I am describing?

It should be called; "The Myth of Tenure".
It sounds more like a Soviet movie, set in pre-revolutionary Russia, than one "made in the USA".

The movie is set somewhere in America in the early 1990s.

Via Googling "movie about homeless man who froze to death on the streets", I think I might have found the movie. I think that the movie I am looking for is titled "Christmas on Division Street". It was made in 1991. From reading the description of Christmas on Division Street, I don't see anything saying that the elderly homeless man was a former university professor. But perhaps the elderly homeless man in the movie I saw as a child was not a former university professor.

The scene I described of the homeless man getting fired from his manual labor job is at 59:45 into Christmas on Division Street. So Christmas on Division Street is definitely the movie I was looking for.

Thread 'In the early days of electricity, they didn't have wall plugs'
Hello scientists, engineers, etc. I have not had any questions for you recently, so have not participated here. I was scanning some material and ran across these 2 ads. I had posted them at another forum, and I thought you may be interested in them as well. History is fascinating stuff! Some houses may have had plugs, but many homes just screwed the appliance into the light socket overhead. Does anyone know when electric wall plugs were in widespread use? 1906 ad DDTJRAC Even big...
