Great book. I did an independent study using preprints of the book in 1972.

This 2017 book is essentially the same as the original 1973 first-edition

The book was left unchanged from the original except for a forward by Kip Thorne, which was added. I got the new 2017 copy thinking there was new stuff, but I was sadly disappointed that they just republished it in celebration of Thorne's notoriety with the gravity wave detector work.

Thorne describes the outdated sections of the book. The first 8 to 10 chapters are still quite valuable in understanding general relativity.
