In summary, anti-aliasing is a technique used to smooth edges and improve the visual quality of computer graphics, including latex. It is important for displaying latex in a browser as it enhances the readability of the text. However, IE8, being an older browser, may not have the capability to display anti-aliased graphics. It is recommended to upgrade to a newer browser for better compatibility and performance. It is not possible to enable anti-aliasing for latex in IE8 or modify the latex code to display with anti-aliasing. Alternatives such as using third-party plugins or converting the latex to an image may not always be reliable or support all features of latex.

On my computer the PNG made from latex is ugly and rough with no anti-aliasing.

How do I fix that in Internet Explorer 8?

I think that is just how the image is generated and stored on the server. There is nothing that I know of that you can do in your browser.

I understand your frustration with the lack of anti-aliasing in your browser when viewing latex images. This issue is likely due to the limitations of Internet Explorer 8, which is an outdated browser with limited support for modern web technologies. To fix this issue, I would recommend upgrading to a newer browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, which have better support for anti-aliasing and other web features. Alternatively, you could try using a latex rendering extension or plugin for Internet Explorer 8, but this may not completely solve the issue. Overall, upgrading your browser is the best solution for a smoother and more accurate display of latex images.
