Parallel Universe: Exploring What it is

In summary, parallel universe is a concept that originated in quantum physics and resurfaced in string theory. It is based on the idea of 'many worlds' where all possible outcomes of a quantum event must occur. However, this concept cannot be confirmed by any known test and therefore has little scientific merit. It is best to research this topic on your own using sources such as Wikipedia.

It is a nonsensical concept that has no basis in physics

EDIT: if you do not know how to use GOOGLE, you really should learn.

Physics Forums is a great place to answer specific questions, however if you wish to know the general overview of a subject then your best bet would be to hit up Wikipedia or another source of information. Imagine if someone kept asking you "What is X" when they had an encyclopedia right there next to them!

Parallel universes is a concept that originated in quantum physics, then reemerged in string theory. The basic idea is built on the 'many worlds' interpretation, where all possible outcomes of a quantum event must occur. The observational issue is we can confirm only a single outcome. That renders it unconfirmable by any known test, hence, it has little scientific merit.

friends first and second replies was expected...
the thing is, if I would have not know how to use google then probably I would have not physics forum and what parallel universe...so don't tell me that...anyway I was asking some specific things...

No you weren't. You asked nothing specific at all. Even your original question is too broad, as there are several possibilities on what you could be asking about. Searching for parallel universe on wikipedia brings up the following page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_universe

As you can see there are two options under Science and several in other areas. I recommend figuring out which one you are asking about and reading the relevant article on wiki.

FAQ: Parallel Universe: Exploring What it is

What is a parallel universe?

A parallel universe, also known as a parallel dimension or alternate universe, is a theoretical concept that suggests the existence of other universes that coexist with our own. These universes may have different physical laws, dimensions, and timelines.

How do parallel universes relate to the multiverse theory?

The multiverse theory is the idea that there are multiple, separate universes that exist alongside each other. Parallel universes are just one aspect of the multiverse theory, as they are believed to exist as separate realities that run parallel to our own universe.

What evidence is there for the existence of parallel universes?

There is currently no concrete evidence for the existence of parallel universes. However, some theories in physics, such as string theory and the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics, suggest the possibility of parallel universes. Additionally, some scientists have proposed experiments, such as the double-slit experiment, to try and detect evidence of parallel universes.

Could we ever travel to a parallel universe?

Currently, there is no known way to physically travel to a parallel universe. However, some scientists have proposed theories, such as wormholes and cosmic strings, that may make interdimensional travel possible in the future. These ideas are still highly speculative and have not been tested or proven.

How does the concept of parallel universes impact our understanding of reality?

The idea of parallel universes challenges our traditional understanding of reality and raises questions about the nature of existence. It also has implications for our understanding of time, space, and the origins of the universe. However, until there is concrete evidence for the existence of parallel universes, it remains a theoretical concept that may or may not have real-world implications.
