Please recommend books on numerical approach to NLS

In summary, the conversation was focused on recommendations for books on numerical approach to Nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) or an introduction to NLS in general. The participants also clarified that NLS refers to Nonlinear Schrödinger equation, not Non-Linear Systems. Several resources were suggested, including a paper on numerical methods for NLS with far-field conditions, a paper on the discrete NLS equation, a course on solitons and nonlinear waves, and a book on mathematical modeling in continuum mechanics. The request for more introductory level books was also mentioned.

Hi all.
Could you please recommend some nice books on numerical approach to NLS or introduction to NLS in general?
I don't have a strong background in numerical methods nor any prior knowldege in NLS or quantum mechanics. So, perhaps an introductory book would be suitable at this stage.
Thanks.

By NLS, does one mean Non-linear Schrödinger equation, as opposed to Non-Linear Systems? If so, then these might be of interest.

thanks.
but is there any more introductory level books? I am completely new to this field.

FAQ: Please recommend books on numerical approach to NLS

What is the best book for beginners on numerical approach to NLS?

One highly recommended book for beginners is "Numerical Methods for Nonlinear Equations" by J. C. Butcher. It provides a comprehensive introduction to numerical methods for solving nonlinear equations, including NLS.

Are there any books that focus specifically on NLS?

Yes, "Numerical Solution of Nonlinear Equations" by A. R. Conn, N. I. M. Gould, and P. L. Toint is a popular choice for those looking to learn about NLS in particular. It covers a wide range of numerical methods and includes many practical examples.

Do any books on numerical approach to NLS include programming examples?

Yes, "Numerical Methods for Nonlinear Equations and Their Applications" by Ioannis K. Argyros and Yeol J. E. Choi includes numerous programming examples in MATLAB for a hands-on approach to learning about NLS and its numerical solutions.

Are there any books that cover advanced topics in numerical approach to NLS?

"Numerical Methods for Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations" by S. D. Conte and C. de Boor is a comprehensive text that covers advanced topics in numerical methods for nonlinear PDEs, including NLS. It is recommended for those looking to deepen their understanding of NLS and its numerical solutions.

Are there any online resources for learning about numerical approach to NLS?

Yes, there are many online resources available, including lecture notes, video lectures, and interactive tutorials. Some recommended resources include "Numerical Methods for Nonlinear Systems" by David S. Watkins and the "Nonlinear Systems" course on MIT OpenCourseWare.
