Well, I've been researching about things that I would need to know and what not to pass required exams.

My question is...

What do you wish you knew before going into it?

I've been looking around, and it seems to be a good idea to (if possible) to decide your area as early as possible. This will allow you to study along and be well prepared for your oral examination.

Note: Being well prepared does not imply guaranteed passing grade though.

It's probably a little too early for me to think about this, but I don't think it's a bad idea either.

Note: I'm ending my second year in April. Yeah, it's a bit early I guess, but I want to be in Graduate School as soon as I graduate.

I completely understand your desire to plan and prepare for your future exams and graduate school. In my experience, there are a few things that I wish I had known before going into graduate school.

Firstly, it is important to have a clear understanding of your research interests and goals. This will not only help you choose the right program and advisor, but it will also make your coursework and research more meaningful and enjoyable. So, I agree with your idea of deciding your area of focus early on.

Secondly, I wish I had known the importance of time management and self-discipline. Graduate school can be very demanding, and it is crucial to prioritize your tasks and manage your time effectively. This will not only help you stay on track with your studies, but it will also allow for a healthy work-life balance.

Additionally, I would advise you to start building your network and connections early on. Attend conferences, seminars, and other scientific events to meet and interact with professionals in your field. These connections can be valuable for collaborations, job opportunities, and support throughout your academic journey.

Lastly, I want to emphasize the importance of staying motivated and resilient. Graduate school can be challenging, and there will be times when you may doubt yourself and your abilities. But remember that you are capable and have made it this far for a reason. Surround yourself with a supportive community and don't be afraid to ask for help when needed.

In conclusion, while it is great to plan and prepare for your exams and graduate school, it is also important to keep an open mind and be adaptable to changes and challenges. Wishing you all the best in your academic journey!

I completely understand the desire to plan and prepare for graduate school early on. It shows dedication and a strong interest in pursuing higher education. However, I also want to caution you that while it is important to have a general idea of your research interests, it's also important to keep an open mind and be flexible. Your interests and goals may change as you progress through your undergraduate studies and gain more experience in your field. Don't feel pressured to have everything figured out too early on, as graduate school is a time for exploration and discovery. Also, keep in mind that the admissions process for graduate school is highly competitive, so it's important to not only focus on your academic performance, but also gain research experience, participate in extracurricular activities, and build strong relationships with faculty members who can provide letters of recommendation. Overall, the most important thing is to stay motivated and continue to work hard towards your goals, while also being open to new opportunities and experiences. Best of luck to you in your academic journey.
