Question - electron mass & magnetic moment

In summary, the mass of an electron is approximately 9.11 x 10^-31 kilograms and can be determined through various experimental methods. The magnetic moment of an electron is a measure of its ability to interact with magnetic fields and is equal to approximately -9.28 x 10^-24 joule per tesla. This property plays a crucial role in many physical phenomena and is considered to be constant and fundamental.

What do you think? How does one calculate the magnetic dipole moment of an electron?

I have to admit I didn’t think so. If the magnetic moment is calculated as ½ g q h / 2 pi 2 m, the mass is given. But is there not some magnetic effect on the electron when the mass is measured?

FAQ: Question - electron mass & magnetic moment

What is the mass of an electron?

The mass of an electron is approximately 9.11 x 10^-31 kilograms.

How is the mass of an electron determined?

The mass of an electron can be determined through various experimental methods, such as measuring its acceleration in an electric field or its deflection in a magnetic field.

What is the magnetic moment of an electron?

The magnetic moment of an electron is a measure of its ability to interact with magnetic fields. It is a fundamental property of electrons and is equal to approximately -9.28 x 10^-24 joule per tesla.

How does the magnetic moment of an electron affect its behavior?

The magnetic moment of an electron plays a crucial role in many physical phenomena, such as the behavior of atoms and the formation of chemical bonds. It also determines how electrons interact with external magnetic fields.

Can the mass and magnetic moment of an electron change?

According to current scientific understanding, the mass and magnetic moment of an electron cannot change. These properties are considered to be constant and fundamental characteristics of electrons.
