Religion the touch, the feel of mythology, the fabric of our lives

In summary, religion plays a vital role in shaping individuals' beliefs, values, and behaviors, providing a moral code and sense of community. Mythology often serves as a basis for religious beliefs, explaining origins and passing down traditions. While some religions have evidence to support their beliefs, faith is the core of religion. There is a difference between religion and spirituality, with the former being organized and the latter being personal. Religion also has a significant impact on society, influencing cultural norms, politics, and social issues.

Anyone else scared that the veil is causing the sane to be outnumbered (and out-believed) by the "majority". Ever read Ishmael...I know, i know, its only one book, but the idea of religion as mythology is pretty sane, IMHO. Wanting an explanation for "it all" is not the same as having one...

I don't know. Those people who are scientists who claim to be the sane ones are quite scary to me. I'll take the religious masses anyday unless they are socialists masses because they will take away tons of freedoms in the name of the Good.

I believe in the power of evidence-based reasoning and the scientific method to understand the world around us. However, I also recognize that religion plays a significant role in many people's lives and provides a sense of purpose and meaning. While religion may have elements of mythology, it is a deeply personal and cultural belief system that should be respected and not dismissed as solely irrational or illogical.

I understand the concern about the influence of religious beliefs on society and the potential for it to overpower rational thinking. However, it is important to recognize that the majority does not always equate to truth or accuracy. It is essential to approach religious beliefs with an open mind and to critically evaluate them, just as we would any scientific theory.

I have not read Ishmael, but I agree that the concept of religion as mythology is a valid perspective. It is essential to consider the historical, cultural, and societal context in which religions developed and to acknowledge that our understanding of the world has evolved over time. Wanting an explanation for the existence of the universe and our place in it is a fundamental human desire, and it is natural for us to seek answers through religion or other means.

In conclusion, I believe that religion and science can coexist and that it is possible to have a rational and evidence-based understanding of the world while also respecting the role of religion in people's lives. As scientists, it is our responsibility to continue to explore and understand the world around us, while also acknowledging and respecting the diversity of beliefs and perspectives in our society.
