Zinc Alloy parts( Zn, with small % of Al, Cu,Pb, etc) become corroded with age. Refurbishing (Restoring) involves removal of all plating, drilling out corrosion pits and filling with zinc solder. Badly corroded parts have patches of oxided metal surrounding the pits. This substantially reduces the strength and workability of the parts. I am looking for a method of chemically reducing these patches back to Zinc.
Are there methods of applying reactive chemicals to the surface of these parts, along with heat (up to 700 degF) and/or steam, gasses, etc. to restore the Zinc metal?
