Hey guyz...how's it going?

I just got done retaking the GRE. The first time I took it I bombed (670Q and 440V 4.0AW) and I retook and did even worse. Go me!

:(

I should probably seriously start looking for jobs...grad school is probably not an option for me.

I am sorry to here that, but maybe you should take it one more time. Do not take it now, give a year and come back to it.
Don't give up.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't see an improvement in your GRE scores after retaking the test. It can be frustrating and discouraging, but don't give up hope just yet! Here are a few tips that may help you improve your score in the future:

1. Identify your strengths and weaknesses. Take some time to review your practice tests and identify which sections or types of questions you struggle with the most. This will help you focus your studying efforts on those areas.

2. Practice, practice, practice. The more you familiarize yourself with the test format and types of questions, the more comfortable and confident you will feel on test day. Make use of online resources and study materials to help you practice.

3. Consider a prep course or tutor. If you have the resources, investing in a prep course or hiring a tutor can be beneficial. They can provide personalized instruction and strategies to help you improve your score.

4. Don't underestimate the importance of time management. The GRE is a timed test, so it's important to practice managing your time effectively. This will help you avoid rushing through questions and making careless mistakes.

5. Take care of yourself. Make sure you're well-rested, well-fed, and in a positive mindset on test day. This can make a big difference in your performance.

Remember, your GRE score is just one aspect of your graduate school application. Don't let it discourage you from pursuing your goals. Keep working hard and stay determined, and I'm sure you'll see improvement in the future. Best of luck to you!

FAQ: Retaking the GRE: Any Tips for Improving My Score?

What is the GRE and why is it important?

The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is a standardized test used for admission to graduate and business schools. It tests verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing skills. A high GRE score can improve your chances of getting accepted into a competitive graduate program.

Why would someone want to retake the GRE?

There are a few reasons why someone may want to retake the GRE. One reason could be that they did not achieve the score they were hoping for on their first attempt. Another reason could be that they want to improve their chances of getting accepted into a more competitive program. Some schools also allow applicants to submit their highest GRE score, so retaking the exam could potentially improve their chances of admission.

What are some tips for improving my GRE score?

First, make sure you are familiar with the format and structure of the exam. Practice questions and take practice tests to get a sense of your strengths and weaknesses. Focus on improving your weaker areas by studying and practicing more. Also, make sure to manage your time effectively during the exam. Lastly, try to stay calm and focused during the test, and don't let one difficult question throw you off.

How long should I wait before retaking the GRE?

It is generally recommended to wait at least 21 days before retaking the GRE. This gives you enough time to review and prepare for the exam, but also allows you to retake it within the same application cycle if needed.

How many times can I retake the GRE?

You can take the GRE up to five times within a 12-month period. However, it is important to note that some schools may have their own policies on how many times they will consider an applicant's GRE scores. It is always best to check with the schools you are applying to for their specific policies.
