In summary, when setting up a two-way wifi connection over a long distance, it is recommended to use a dongle with an attachable antennae, carefully consider the depth of your wok/parabolic dish, and use software that provides detailed information on signal strength to ensure optimal connectivity.

I want to set up a two way wifi connection over as far of a distance as possible using wokfi.
When choosing wifi dongles for the wokfi apparatus, should I get a normal dongle or the type with an attachable antennae?
When choosing woks/parabolic dishes, what is the best depth to choose for my application?
Is there a software out there that gives me more detailed information on signal strength than just the 5 bars my computer shows me? Do I have to worry about anything besides signal strength?

Thank you

When choosing wifi dongles for the wokfi apparatus, it is best to get a dongle with an attachable antennae as this will provide better signal reception. The range of the antennae will depend on the type you choose.

When choosing woks/parabolic dishes, the best depth to choose will depend on your application and the size of the area in which you want to provide coverage. It is important to consider both the size of the area you are trying to provide coverage for and the size of the dish itself when selecting a depth.

There is software available that can provide more detailed information on signal strength than the typical 5 bars shown by your computer. Such software includes tools like inSSIDer, NetStumbler, and Tamosoft CommView. When considering signal strength, you should also take into account other factors such as line-of-sight, interference, and noise.

FAQ: Setting Up Wokfi: Choosing Dongles & Dishes | Signal Strength

What is a dongle?

A dongle is a small device that connects to your computer or other electronic device in order to provide access to wireless internet or other network services. In the case of setting up wifi, a dongle is used to connect to a wifi network and provide internet access.

What factors should I consider when choosing a dongle for my wifi setup?

There are a few important factors to consider when choosing a dongle for your wifi setup. These include the type of wifi network you will be connecting to (e.g. 2.4GHz or 5GHz), the range and signal strength you require, and the compatibility of the dongle with your device.

What is a dish in the context of setting up wifi?

A dish, also known as a wifi antenna, is a device used to amplify and direct the wifi signal. This is especially useful for long-range wifi setups or for areas with poor signal strength.

How do I determine the signal strength of my wifi network?

The signal strength of your wifi network can be determined by using a wifi analyzer app or software, which will show you the strength of the signal in different areas of your space. You can also check the signal strength by looking at the number of bars on your device's wifi indicator.

Is it better to have a higher or lower signal strength for my wifi setup?

Ideally, you want to have a strong and stable wifi signal for optimal internet performance. However, having too strong of a signal can also cause interference and decrease performance. It is recommended to aim for a signal strength between -50dBm and -60dBm for the best balance between performance and stability.
