Silly Question about applications

In summary, when sending in applications for REU's, the size of the envelope does not matter to the recipients. However, it is important to ensure that the envelope has the correct amount of postage, regardless of its size. It is recommended to take the chosen envelope to the post office to be weighed and determine the appropriate amount of postage.

I am sending in applications for REU's and I am wondering if I should send them in large letter size envelopes, or just fold the application materials and put it in a smaller regular(?) size envelope? Does it even matter? Thanks!edit... Also, if I use a larger size do I need more stamps (postage)? And, if I use the regular size with 7 or fewer letter size pieces of paper would I need more postage?

As far as the people receiving the materials are concerned, I don't think the envelope matters. As for postage, it's best to just take whatever envelope you choose down to your nearest post office and have them weigh it to make sure it has the right amount on it.

I can understand the need for precision and attention to detail when sending in important applications. While the size of the envelope may not seem like a crucial factor, it is always best to err on the side of caution and use a larger envelope to ensure that all the application materials fit comfortably without being folded or crumpled. This will not only make a good impression on the recipient, but also prevent any important documents from getting damaged during transit.

In terms of postage, it is always a good idea to weigh your envelope and its contents to determine the correct amount of postage needed. If you are using a larger envelope, you may need more stamps depending on the weight of the materials. However, if you are using a regular size envelope with 7 or fewer letter size pieces of paper, you may not need additional postage. It is always better to double check with your local post office to ensure that the correct amount of postage is applied.

Overall, while the size of the envelope may not significantly impact the application process, it is always best to present your materials in the most professional and organized manner possible. I wish you the best of luck with your REU applications!
