Storage of material from CD's and DVD's: cloud?

In summary, my friend is computer illiterate and wants to move his large music and film collection to a more accessible medium, preferably USB storage devices plus putting them in a cloud service that is likely to be around in 20 years time. He does not have a laptop with a CD/DVD drive and wants to find a reliable, automated process to store the collections. For music, he could either rip them to the hard drive and backup to an external drive or multiple drives, or store them on Google Drive. For films, he could buy them again on iTunes or store them on an external hard disk. With regards to services, he should look for a reliable, automated process that doesn't charge too much. Yep! It's amazing that in almost 2019, that thought didn't even occur to me for a storage option. Probably because optical media isn't as reliable (or efficient) as hard drives these days.
