In summary, the nostalgic memories of a scientist reflect on the basic education they received in the 1960s. During this time, education was focused on instilling a strong foundation of fundamentals in subjects such as math, science, and language. Students were encouraged to think critically and problem-solve, rather than just memorize information. The education system also emphasized hands-on learning and practical application of knowledge. The scientist recalls fond memories of conducting experiments and participating in debates and discussions. Overall, the basic education in the 1960s provided a strong academic foundation and fostered a love for learning in students.

Basic education back in the 1960s 46 kids in class, third year maths we where given graph paper and made lovely coloured patterns.
The maths teacher was the school disciplinarian, other teachers would send the ruffians, smokers for the cain.
You are having an exam tomorrow, on the blackboard are some examples of the kind of sums you might see with the answers.
They where the exact sums with the answers,
The maths teacher would gamble on the horse racing, sending a couple of kids to place his bets.
Happy days we would run home from school two miles there and two miles back at dinner time hail rain or snow. I had a dog back then a Labrador Alsatian cross looked like a big white Alsatian named Kelly, none of the thugs would trouble me if Kelly was with me.

If you have read the book or seen the film Kes that is how it was.
