Thevenin Circuit Homework: Find Equivalent Circuit & Rth

In summary, a Thevenin circuit is a simplified representation of a complex electrical circuit that consists of a voltage source and a single resistor. To find the equivalent circuit, all other components are removed and the voltage source and resistor are used. This allows for easier analysis and calculation of circuit parameters. The Thevenin voltage is the open-circuit voltage between two terminals, while the Thevenin resistance is the equivalent resistance measured by short-circuiting the voltage source.

Homework Statement

I need the find the thev. equivlaent circuit of the attached image
The attempt at a solution

I've tried using simulation software and the answers off the software are not what I am getting when trying to solve this. I know that when I find the Rth I need to use delta-Y conversions but I don't see how to find the open circuit potential...please help!

FAQ: Thevenin Circuit Homework: Find Equivalent Circuit & Rth

What is a Thevenin circuit?

A Thevenin circuit is a simplified representation of a complex electrical circuit. It consists of a voltage source in series with a single resistor, and is used to model the behavior of a more complicated circuit.

How do you find the equivalent circuit of a Thevenin circuit?

To find the equivalent circuit of a Thevenin circuit, you need to remove all the components except for the voltage source and the single resistor. The voltage of the source will be the Thevenin voltage, and the resistance of the single resistor will be the Thevenin resistance.

What is the purpose of finding the Thevenin equivalent circuit?

The purpose of finding the Thevenin equivalent circuit is to simplify a complex circuit into a simpler one that is easier to analyze and understand. It also allows for easier calculation of circuit parameters, such as voltage and current.

How do you calculate the Thevenin voltage?

The Thevenin voltage is equal to the open-circuit voltage between two terminals in a circuit. To calculate it, you need to disconnect the load from the circuit and measure the voltage between the two terminals. This voltage will be the Thevenin voltage.

What is the Thevenin resistance?

The Thevenin resistance is the equivalent resistance of a Thevenin circuit. It is measured by short-circuiting the voltage source and calculating the resistance between the two terminals. This resistance value is the Thevenin resistance.
