Weird that they're announcing this colour at the beginning of 2008, seems like the 2008 award is a year early. maybe it's so everyone can go out & paint their house this colour.

AT least one color authority, Pantone, has taken the plunge and announced its favorite color for 2008. To be sure, this news doesn’t seem as delectable as People’s Sexiest Man Alive or as snugly affirming as Time’s Person of the Year. You probably did not even know that chili pepper red was the color for 2007.

Nonetheless, Pantone’s choice of blue iris, or No. 18-3943, got some news media attention last week, which seemed to be partly the objective of the company, which is based in Carlstadt, N.J. In a statement, Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said: “Blue Iris brings together the dependable aspects of blue, underscored by a strong, soul-searching purple cast. Emotionally, it is anchoring and meditative with a touch of magic.”

My wife bought me a shirt of blue iris for Hanukkah. You can always depend on her to be at the heighth of fashion and that pretty much means I am too. But after I meditated over it for a length of time I decided I didn't like it and I wasn't going to wear it. As you can well imagine, although I felt strongly about it, this decision was made in haste and in error. As a result, I have been doing a lot a soul-searching lately. Especially on account of a purple cast here and there about my noggin. There might be magic in her touch, but I think she has an anchor hidden in that velvet glove. The end result is that I am now an emotional wreck. I hope 2009 is Fire Engine Red. Maybe she'll finally get me that Lamborghini I've always wanted.

It is well known that blue is an emotional color. Picasso anyone?

Blue usually is associated with melancholy and contemplation.

Gradients of Blue and other smooth, relaxing visual techniques incorporating Blue are considered calming and soothing.

Why does 2007 remind me of orange? 2008 makes me think of a dark blue... I guess that's close enough. 2006 makes me think dark green. 2005 is red, 2004 yellow, 2003 and under don't make me think of any color.

Blue is supposed to be calming. Growing up everything I owned was blue. My mother even had my mattress and boxsprings custom made for me in a blue material I chose. Looking back, I now realize that seems a bit odd, but the furniture store where we shopped made custom furniture.

Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.
Hmmm, doesn't sound like 2007 to me. Maybe it was orange for you. Of course you are a fire-breathing moose.

I didnt really mean the year that the number represented, just the number itself seemed like that color.

The Luscher color test is fun, I first ran across it when I was 14.

This are my results:

Wants to gain mastery over insecurities and difficulties and measure up to challenges. Wary so as to defend claims. Wants to proceed purposefully and cautiously. Wants to play it safe, avoid risk, and protect self from being placed at a disadvantage. Maintains self-control. Avoids saying anything rash that could jeopardize avowed goal.

Wants to avoid feelings of personal isolation and loneliness. Is therefore full of enthusiastic anticipation and open to new encounters. Finds the relationship with a partner or a personal task and activity to be the focal point of life and becomes totally immersed in it with intense enthusiasm. Dedicates self to these interests above all others with open-minded commitment.

That first part used to be me, lately my temper has been shortend by a series of accidents and ailments. You try moving a TV set with one hand!

My first part was the same as yours, but yet that's not me AT ALL. Also, the second part said "Try Again"

"Almost unable to bear being subjected to conventional regularities and routine activity. Considers routine activity and steady perseverance to be suffocating because they interfere with appetite for unhampered freedom to experience life. Wants to break away from situational constraints and wherever possible to circumvent obstacles or opposition standing in the way."

"Desirous of protecting self from disturbing or unsettling conflicts with anyone who is close or important as a partner. Has an urgent need to be freed from such difficulties. Longs for an uncomplicated peaceful relationship to persons who are important as partners. Desires a carefree, light-hearted relationship which does not lead to painful conflicts."

not too bad

"Hungers for intensity in life and welcomes opportunity to take on challenges and experience them with intense vitality. Is open-minded, active, and full of initiative. Expects others to share interests and join in enthusiastically. Let's nothing get in the way of or restrict interests and activities. Also pays little heed to conventional prejudices or the timidity and lack of magnanimity of others.

Wants to be totally immersed with intense enthusiasm and engaged communion in the beloved or a personal task and activity. Finds the beloved or a personal task to be what makes life worthwhile and its dominating force, bringing true contentment and fulfillment. But the expectation is that the partner will also bring unconditional and undivided attentiveness to the relationship. That is seen as an important prerequisite to a dependable and secure relationship."

I wonder if some of that 'test' (the fortune cookie answers) goes by the amount of time taken by the 'testee'?

  • #22
Oddly, I find this color test to be highly accurate, although I don't believe in this kind of thing. It seems too simplistic to give such answers. Judge for yourself, remember it's all in fun.

No timing is taken into consideration. The original book had colored squares in a punch out in the book, (it was before the internet). It's a psychological test.
