Understanding the Wave Function in Quantum Mechanics: A Beginner's Guide

In summary, the wave function is a mathematical representation of the state of a quantum system. It is used to describe the probability of finding a particle in a particular position or state. The wave function evolves over time according to Schrödinger's equation, and its square gives the probability distribution of the particle. It is a fundamental concept in quantum mechanics and plays a crucial role in understanding the behavior of particles at the atomic and subatomic level. However, it can be a complex and abstract concept for beginners to grasp, but with practice and further study, one can gain a deeper understanding of the wave function and its significance in quantum mechanics.

How did you find PF?
Sean Carroll's contact page on preposterousuniverse.com. He indicated that he doesn't take submissions and directs users to several sites. I selected this one randomly.
I'm in Dayton OH and work at a firm here in the QA Department. I have no physics background besides YouTube. Wednesday 12/9/2020 I decided I was sick of not understanding what a wave function is. So, I figured it out and posted it here. Nothing makes sense anymore, I have no one with whom I can share this so I posted it here.

Welcome to PhysicsForums!

As you saw in your Personal Messages, we do not allow speculation or personal theory development here. We *do* allow and encourage questions, though. So if you want to start a new thread in the QM forum with links to your reading and specific questions about that reading, that should work. It would be best if you would mark your thread with a "B" prefix, to show that you want the replies to be at the "Basic" level.

Enjoy the PF!
