I've just seen a picture of a man being arrested in the US for not being fat enough. Incredible!
It's an incredible story.jtbell said:Got a link to a news article about this?
You don't think the 1000 burglaries he performed might have had anything to do with his arrest?PeroK said:I've just seen a picture of a man being arrested in the US for not being fat enough. Incredible!

It was just the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the photo. It was something about the look on the faces of the two fat policemen that seemed to say "we've caught another thin one, sergeant"!OmCheeto said:You don't think the 1000 burglaries he performed might have had anything to do with his arrest?

My sincerest apologies for taking you seriously. It's just that, well, here in the colonies, we've been having some very strange election results, some very peculiar laws passed, and it didn't seem too far fetched.PeroK said:It was just the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the photo. No, it is not legally possible to be arrested solely for being too thin in the United States. Arrests typically occur due to violations of specific laws, not based on an individual's physical appearance or body weight.
Such a headline is likely sensationalized or misleading. It could be referring to situations where extreme thinness is a symptom of a larger issue, such as neglect, abuse, or an eating disorder, which might involve legal actions for other reasons.
There are no laws in the US that directly regulate body weight or appearance. However, there are laws that address issues like child neglect or endangerment, which might come into play if someone's health is at severe risk due to their weight.
The US legal system may intervene in cases of severe malnutrition or eating disorders, especially if they involve minors or if the individual's health is in critical danger. This intervention is typically aimed at providing medical care and support rather than punitive measures.
If someone is concerned about extreme thinness, it is important to seek medical advice. Consulting with a healthcare professional can provide guidance on addressing any underlying health issues. In cases of suspected neglect or abuse, contacting social services or law enforcement may be necessary.
