Hello,

I'm taking a break from school this semester to work and pursue interests that I have let fall to the way-side due to studies. I'm an EE major but physics is sort of a "hobby" that I enjoy learning past what is required for my classes. I would like to take a QM course next year some time and I think it would be beneficial to, at least, attempt, to learn some of the material before I take the class. I have a good understanding of mathematics so I feel I can tackle this topic (along with some help via PF).
Does anyone have recommendations for the "best" book/books to purchase for this topic?

Thanks,
-Tyler.

FAQ: What Are the Best Books for Beginners in Quantum Mechanics?

What is quantum mechanics and why is it important to learn?

Quantum mechanics is the branch of physics that studies the behavior of particles at the atomic and subatomic level. It is important to learn because it provides a fundamental understanding of how the universe works and has led to advancements in technology such as computers and lasers.

What are the best books for beginners to learn quantum mechanics?

Some popular books for beginners include "Quantum Mechanics: The Theoretical Minimum" by Leonard Susskind and Art Friedman, "Introduction to Quantum Mechanics" by David J. Griffiths, and "Quantum Mechanics for Scientists and Engineers" by David A. B. Miller.

Are there any online resources or videos that can supplement learning from books?

Yes, there are many online resources and videos available for learning quantum mechanics. Some popular ones include MIT OpenCourseWare, Khan Academy, and YouTube channels such as "Quantum Mechanics for Everyone" and "The Science Asylum."

What are some advanced books for furthering knowledge in quantum mechanics?

Some advanced books include "Principles of Quantum Mechanics" by R. Shankar, "Quantum Physics: A Beginner's Guide" by Alastair Rae, and "Quantum Theory: A Very Short Introduction" by John Polkinghorne.

Is it necessary to have a strong background in math to understand quantum mechanics?

While a strong background in math is helpful, it is not necessary to understand quantum mechanics. Many books and resources provide a gradual introduction to the necessary math concepts for understanding quantum mechanics.
