In summary, Reich was a prolific writer and psychologist who was charged with contempt of court for violating an injunction. He defended himself by sending the judge all his books to read, and was eventually sentenced to two years imprisonment. His books and theories have been critiqued for their lack of scientific validity, but he is still considered a pioneer in the field of psychoanalysis.

He must be a genius - look at his hair.

Charged with contempt of court for violating the injunction, Reich conducted his own defense, which involved sending the judge all his books to read. He was sentenced to two years' imprisonment.
Wow, those must've been some pretty bad books.

Well he wasn't a complete nutter.

He was a prolific writer for psychoanalytic journals in Europe, and his book Character Analysis brought forth a small revolution in the practice of psychoanalysis itself, and is still used today as a textbook for analytically-oriented classes in medical schools.

I think the judge was biased

The so-called psychiatric "science" is a haven for nutcases and charlatans to propound exotic and arcane theories with fancy-sounding jargon.
Because the subject of study is so ill-posed to begin with, guys like Freud, Adler, Jung, Reich and Lacan could get away with publishing intellectual rubbish and still be regarded as having said something profound and deep.

Once they ventured outside their own field, however, and tried to make theories within physics, as Reich did, their incompetence is immediately revealed.
