In summary, the conversation suggests using a glass hurricane lamp cover or a candle surrounded by a tin can as solutions for preventing a flame from blowing out. It is also mentioned that plastic is not a good option as it melts. For emergencies, glow sticks are recommended over candles.

To stop it from blowing out. Should you just have a 2 inch plastic around where the flame is?

Plastic melts, so no, plastic is not a good idea.

A glass hurricane lamp cover is good.

FAQ: What is the best type of guard to put on a candle to protect it from the wind?

What are the different types of guards available for candle protection?

Some common types of guards for candles include glass jars, metal lanterns, candle hurricanes, and candle shades. Each type offers varying levels of protection and aesthetic appeal.

Which type of guard is best for outdoor use?

Metal lanterns are typically the best option for outdoor use as they are more durable and can withstand wind and weather conditions better than glass jars or shades.

Will a candle guard completely prevent wind from blowing out the flame?

No, a candle guard can only provide limited protection from wind. It may reduce the intensity of the wind and help keep the flame steady, but it cannot completely prevent the wind from blowing out the flame.

Can I use a glass jar as a candle guard?

Yes, glass jars can be used as a candle guard, but they may not be as effective as other types of guards. The glass may crack or shatter if exposed to strong winds, and it may also create a greenhouse effect around the candle, causing it to burn faster.

Are there any specific safety precautions to keep in mind when using a candle guard?

Yes, it is important to never leave a candle unattended, especially when using a guard. Make sure the guard is placed securely and the candle is stable before lighting it. Also, be cautious when handling the guard as it may become hot when the candle is lit.
