Multiply by 3, Round off, Divide by 10, Subtract 1... and look carefully.

OR pick absolutely number you like and it is easy to come up with a formula that will have the ones given in order followed by the number you picked.

Wow, did you figure that out right now or have you seen it before?

I did the multiplying three thing myself, and I kind of found a pattern, but dividing by ten and subtracting one was genius.

I had never seen this before.

I stared at it for a couple of seconds, multiplied to get rid of the fractions, saw there was a trailing zero on every number, dropped those, stared at it for a couple of seconds and realized PRIMES!

But, as I said in my first reply, these "what is the next number" often aren't really "math."

That's what I got.

FAQ: What is the next number? question

What is the next number?

The next number refers to the number that comes after a given sequence of numbers. It can be determined by identifying the pattern or rule that the numbers follow.

Can you predict the next number in a sequence?

Yes, if there is a clear pattern or rule, the next number in a sequence can be predicted by applying the pattern or rule to the existing numbers.

What are some common patterns in number sequences?

Some common patterns in number sequences include arithmetic sequences (where each number is added or subtracted by a constant value), geometric sequences (where each number is multiplied or divided by a constant value), and Fibonacci sequences (where each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers).

Is there a formula for finding the next number in a sequence?

Not necessarily. While some number sequences may follow a specific formula, others may not have a clear pattern or rule and therefore cannot be predicted accurately.

Can the next number in a sequence be determined by simply adding 1?

No, the next number in a sequence is not always obtained by adding 1 to the previous number. It depends on the pattern or rule followed by the sequence.
