Whats the difference between electronics eng and electrical eng?

In summary, the speaker is considering transferring from electronics engineering to electrical engineering due to the lack of availability at their current school. They ask if electronic engineers are considered the same as electrical engineers and express hesitation about moving. The expert advises to compare the curriculums of the two schools and mentions that electrical engineering is a broader term than electronics engineering. They also suggest considering the concentration of elective courses and specific field of specialization when making a decision.

So I'm currently in electronics engineering, however, I was planning on transferring to a school about 50 miles away so that I can switch to electrical engineering because my current school does not offer it. I asked my advisor and he said the difference between the two programs is the name. Are most electronic engineers considered electrical engineers (basically do they do the same thing?) I'm having second thoughts simply because I don't want to move.

You can tell us by checking the curriculum of your current program and comparing it to the other schools program. Also, keep in mind, almost everything an electrical engineer works on is electronic, and everything that is electronic is electrical.

I'm an electrical engineering major, and as I understand it, "electrical engineering" is a broader term than "electronics engineering". Electrical engineering includes things like signal processing, that don't directly relate to electronics. Electronics is one sub-area of electrical engineering.

The best way to figure out what to do in your case would probably be to look at the courses that the two schools require and compare how similar/different they are.

So basically the jobs interchangeable? If a company is looking for an electrical engineer an electronic engineer should be qualified?

The difference is too small to worry about. What is relevant is your exact concentration of elective courses and the specific field of specialization you wish to go in.

FAQ: Whats the difference between electronics eng and electrical eng?

What is the difference between electronics engineering and electrical engineering?

Electronics engineering is a branch of electrical engineering that deals specifically with the design and development of electronic devices and systems. Electrical engineering, on the other hand, is a broad field that covers the study and application of electricity, electromagnetism, and electronics.

Do electronics engineers and electrical engineers have different job responsibilities?

While there may be some overlap in job responsibilities, electronics engineers typically focus on designing, testing, and troubleshooting electronic systems and components, while electrical engineers often work on larger-scale projects such as power generation, distribution, and transmission systems.

What kind of education is required for a career in electronics engineering or electrical engineering?

Both fields require a strong foundation in mathematics and physics. Electronics engineering typically requires a degree in electrical engineering or a related field, while electrical engineering may also require additional coursework in areas such as power systems and control systems.

What industries employ electronics engineers and electrical engineers?

Electronics engineers are often employed in industries such as telecommunications, consumer electronics, and computer hardware and software. Electrical engineers may work in a wider range of industries, including power generation, transportation, and aerospace.

Is there a difference in salary between electronics engineers and electrical engineers?

Salaries for both electronics engineers and electrical engineers can vary depending on factors such as experience, location, and industry. However, in general, electrical engineers tend to have higher salaries due to the larger scope of their work and the demand for their skills in a variety of industries.
