When did PF start its forum and how has it evolved over the past 10 years?

In summary, Monique and Evo have been here for a little over 9 years, and Evo has been a mentor for over 7 years. Evo also mentioned that he has been a member of the forums for over 400 days. The anniversary date is sometime in January.

I do believe the anniversary date is sometime in Jan. I have an email from Greg, dated about 1/30/01, inviting people to join his new forum, but only noticed it later, after joining, in March of 2003.

I believe the join date for everyone was reset to April 30th, 2003, due to a software upgrade.

Edit: I just checked and that doesn't seem to be correct, which is perplexing. Monique is showing a join date of March, but that doesn't make sense either. I thought she had been here longer than that when I joined.

I remember specifically that I had been traveling for months [years, actually]. I got home just in time to take a month off and watch the Iraq war. Right after we took the Baghdad and the war was winding down, I joined PF.

It was spring 2001 https://www.physicsforums.com/library.php?do=view_item&itemid=83. I had just arrived in the United States at that time and was spending long days/nights in the lab. Oh wait, I'm still doing that :-p

You probably re-registered a little later, causing the time difference. The soft/hardware upgrade must've been in march 2003.

Wow, I am 50th mentor.

And Monique is primus inter pares

That means Europe is bracketing the PF mentoring at the moment.

Wasn't the first version of PF lost after an upgrade?

I think so, here's the second version: http://www.physicspost.com/physicsforums/

Wow, suddenly I felt 35 years younger. Last time I was fishing under ice must have been in the mid seventies.

What's the fish? It is strikingly similar to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_perch

Perhaps we can celebrate by necroposting threads from that era. Not that anybody would notice the difference from any other day. :-p

Tomorrow is my 7th PF Anniversary.

Hypatia, those are gorgeous fish!

That list isn't in the correct order. I joined the staff about a week before Russ did.

I remember the upgrade being right after I joined. I thought it was right after joining the staff, which was ~ July 1st I think, but might have been earlier than that.

Edit: looks like I joined the staff the week of Aug 14th

Perca fluviatilis vs. Perca flavescens

Those are http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_perch" . Very common here in Great Lakes area (hyp's from Michigan).

Unrelated: I think, considering Borek's change in status, a new avatar is in order.

So when's exactly the PF anniversary? Doesn't Greg know the exact date?

This month, I believe on or about the 21st, will be my ninth anniversary with the forums.

I remember refreshing the forums waiting for new posts, sometimes it was hours between posts.

I just realized I've been here for almost 400 days (400 days on the 20th). Why doesn't anyone tell me these things!?

Oh, and I'm not surprised that PF has been around for so long. It's a great site with a long history!

The domain was registered on Feb 7th 2001. The official first post was likely a week or two after, but I am unsure of a specific date. We will be celebrating the 10 years :)
