I wanted to go on a trip at the end of the summer, around August 18th or so, but I was hoping the ticket prices would go down. I noticed the prices are a bit higher in the summer. Does anyone know when the prices start to go down again? Thanks.

Bing actually does this for you

For example

http://www.bing.com/travel/ext/search/air?q=plane+ticket+newark+to+miami+prices&vo1=Newark%2C%20NJ%20(EWR)%20-%20Newark%20Liberty%20International%20Airport&ve1=Miami%2C%20FL%20(MIA)%20-%20Miami%20International%20Airport&dm1=08%2F15%2F2013&dm2=08%2F20%2F2013&tvl_t=r&cid=IA_FlightBookingMarket&FORM=ATRFBM

You can see near the top

"Tip: Buy·Fares rising $50+·80%+ Confidence"

Just change search to whenever and wherever you want to go (and uncheck the box that does a duplicate search on priceline.com)

FAQ: When Do Summer Plane Ticket Prices Start to Decrease?

What factors affect summer plane ticket prices?

The price of summer plane tickets can be affected by a variety of factors such as demand, fuel costs, competition, and the time of year. During peak travel times, such as summer, ticket prices tend to be higher due to high demand. Additionally, fuel costs can impact ticket prices as airlines adjust their prices to compensate for fluctuations in fuel prices. Competition among airlines can also play a role in ticket prices, as some airlines may offer lower prices to attract more customers. Lastly, the time of year can also affect ticket prices, as summer is a popular time for travel, resulting in higher prices.

Is it better to buy summer plane tickets in advance?

In general, it is recommended to purchase summer plane tickets in advance. As mentioned earlier, summer is a popular time for travel, so prices tend to increase as the date of travel gets closer. By purchasing tickets in advance, you have a better chance of getting a lower price. Additionally, airlines may offer early bird discounts or promotions for those who book their tickets well in advance.

Are there any specific days or times when summer plane tickets are cheaper?

There is no set rule for when summer plane tickets are cheaper, as prices can vary depending on the destination, airline, and other factors. However, some studies have shown that booking flights on weekdays, specifically Tuesdays and Wednesdays, tend to be cheaper compared to booking on weekends. Additionally, early morning and late-night flights may also be cheaper as they are less popular compared to mid-day flights.

Are there any ways to get a discount on summer plane tickets?

There are several ways to potentially get a discount on summer plane tickets. One way is to sign up for airline newsletters or follow them on social media, as they may offer exclusive deals or promotions to their followers. Another way is to use travel search engines or apps that compare prices from different airlines, allowing you to find the best deal. Additionally, using travel rewards credit cards or loyalty programs can also help you save money on summer plane tickets.

What should I do if I find a cheaper ticket after I've already purchased my summer plane ticket?

If you find a cheaper ticket after you've already purchased your summer plane ticket, you should first check the airline's policy on changes or cancellations. Some airlines may allow you to change your ticket or get a refund for the price difference. If this is not an option, you can also try contacting the airline and explaining your situation to see if they can offer any solutions. Additionally, you can also try reaching out to your credit card company or travel insurance provider to see if they can assist you in getting a refund for the price difference.
