Why Does Clicking on a Thread Redirect to the Homepage?

In summary: CBM, there is no way to prevent characters from being in a thread title, that is something that would have to be handled through the server side. You could try using a different title format, but that is just a suggestion and there is no guarantee that that would work.

Why whenever I click the aforementioned thread does it take me to the homepage?

Am I supposed to infer to start there or is there something strange going on with the thread?

Works for me !? and certainly others have been able to navigate their way to the thread. It is reporting 25 views, not all of which will have been me.

I'm pretty sure most of those views are accounted for by me trying to open it! (Rofl)

In the end I convinced myself that the thread was meant for the helpers/mods/admins forum and got posted in here by mistake and left a shadow after it got moved. I left it in peace after that. But now that you imply it wasn't...

OK, when I click on a link to that thread it takes me to the main forum page, when I click on the thread in the Chat Room it opens!?

CBtest: http://www.mathhelpboards.com/showthread.php?502-quot-I-didn’t-know-where-to-start-quot

which fails!

http://www.mathhelpboards.com/showthread.php?540-test&p=2982#post2982

OK, I bet it is the quotes in the thread title.

http://www.mathhelpboards.com/showthread.php?502-I-didn’t-know-where-to-start

No it is a fault with the link, the test that works has the post number while those that don'e don't!Finally, by editing the test I got a URL with a post ID tagged on:

http://www.mathhelpboards.com/showthread.php?540-I-didn-t-know-where-to-start&p=2982#post2982

which does work!??!

I think it is the post ID number that is used to find it and renaming has no effect on that. The original offending post seems to have no post ID number. Changing the thread title has no effect on the ID number.

I am wondering if this is another problem related to copy and pasting formated text?

Only the final linked opened for me and the rest took me to the homepage.

The day that you posted this thread I had the same issues but now all of those links work fine for me. I think the lesson here for us is not to use quotes in thread titles in the future unless I can figure out a way to fix this problem.

Isn't there a way to disallow characters in thread titles? I didn't see anything in Censorship that seemed to work, other than banning quotes in the whole forum, which didn't seem right. The Censorship options don't seem to distinguish between thread title and post body.
