In summary, the act of saying hello when visiting is a universal social norm that serves as a greeting and a way to acknowledge someone's presence. It is a simple gesture that conveys friendliness and politeness, and helps to establish a positive tone for interactions. Saying hello also shows respect and can help to break the ice in new or unfamiliar situations. This custom has been ingrained in many cultures and is seen as a basic form of communication and social etiquette.

Welcome to PF!

Sad to hear that you will come back only once in a long while. However, before leaving, you should explore the following main parts of PF:

1. The main forums, that you see in the first page.
2. Insights Blog, available at the top row (header section). In short, they have been described as a "wonder of the web". It contains articles that help in learning topics to a great extent.
3. The Videos, also available in the header section. The media gallery now has some great videos in almost every aspect in science, and they provide an audio-visual learning experience.

With regards,
Wrichik
