In summary: Nah, if the aliens tried to be mean to me I would just tell them eye staid at a hollyday inn express last nite.

I want to go to Mars. Why not me? I am older and if worse came to worse, say we couldn't get back, then I would not be panicky or depressed about it. I don't want to go to the Moon, only Mars. Maybe there is something there. I wouldn't mind being "Robinson Caruso on Mars". I have much knowledge (electronics, communications, mechanics). I would be a good person to have along. Someone out there put in a good word for me. You never know.

I really enjoyed the movie "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" when I was younger. Ever watch it?

We'll see if that can be arranged.

Me too! I have a "terrible" copy of it on VHS that I made years ago. Mona the monkey was very cool! And I don't particularly care for monkeys.

Ok, I've got to go watch it now.

My thoughts about the Moon and Mars are the same, except Mars has an atmosphere and is a shade of red. If I were to go there id think I were on a colored Moon.

Earth seems to be a far more interesting place to be IMO.

Yes, why don't you go on an airplane and visit some unexplored areas on this earth? You'd run into far stranger cultures.

Something like that?

I liked the original series with Kirk, Spock, etc. Wish they would do another grand one with the original crews.

Rather risky... never know when you'd run into cannibals who lust for your brains.

edit: Then again, if you go to Mars then you risk running into hideous aliens who lust for your brains.

FAQ: Why Not Me? Seeking a One-Way Ticket to Mars

What is "Why Not Me? Seeking a One-Way Ticket to Mars" about?

"Why Not Me? Seeking a One-Way Ticket to Mars" is a book that explores the possibility of humans traveling to Mars and living there permanently. It follows the journey of the author as she applies for and trains for a one-way trip to the red planet.

Why would someone want to go to Mars and not come back?

There are many reasons why someone might want to go to Mars and not come back. Some may see it as the ultimate adventure and challenge, while others may be motivated by the opportunity to be a part of history and further scientific understanding of the universe. Additionally, some may be drawn to the idea of starting a new life on a new planet.

Is it actually possible for humans to live on Mars permanently?

While it is currently not possible for humans to live on Mars permanently, there are ongoing efforts and advancements in technology that are making it more feasible. Scientists are working on ways to create sustainable habitats, grow food, and protect against harsh Martian conditions. However, there are still many challenges and obstacles that need to be overcome before it can become a reality.

What are some of the risks and challenges associated with a one-way trip to Mars?

There are numerous risks and challenges associated with a one-way trip to Mars. These include exposure to high levels of radiation, long periods of isolation and confinement, and the physical and mental toll of living in a harsh and unfamiliar environment. There is also the uncertainty of not being able to return to Earth and the potential for equipment failures or medical emergencies.

Will there be opportunities for regular communication with Earth while living on Mars?

Yes, there will be opportunities for regular communication with Earth while living on Mars. However, due to the distance between the two planets, there will be a significant delay in communication, ranging from a few minutes to over 20 minutes depending on the position of Earth and Mars in their orbits. This may make real-time conversations difficult and could create a sense of isolation for those living on Mars.
