It's been a while since I last did this, and we've had a bunch of new members sign up since, so let's have another round of the same, wot?
As usual, I refer the newcomers to earlier rounds of this game:
Part I
Part II
Solutions to Part II
HOW THE GAME WORKS:
I make up cryptic clues, the answers to which are the usernames of different PF members. If you think you've got the answer, post it, along with the explanation. Sometimes, the answer may not be the complete username. For instance, I might refer to Greg Bernhardt simply as Greg.
Here's a very simple example:
i. Cosmic bomb
Answer = Astronuc [cosmic -> astro; bomb -> nuke -> nuc]
And here's an incredibly difficult one:
ii. 102 Joule back
Answer = Greg [1 Joule = 107 erg => 100 J = 109 erg = 1 Giga erg -> Gerg; turn it "back" to get Greg]
Most clues will be intermediate in difficulty compared the the above examples. Typical styles of crypticity include anagrams, hidden clues, common abbreviations, Roman numerals, use of synonyms & homophones, an occasional speck of trivia, etc.
Now...I'm going to wander off to write up some clues while the newbies catch up. I'll be back with the first bunch in a little bit...
