Hi
Does there exist a material whose state it is possible to change from a solid to liquid by application of electric current? Obviously a large enough current will melt anything, but what I mean is is there some other mechanism, other than brute force heating that can cause a solid to...
Hello,
do you know some specific application of (E)-4-hexen-1-ol?
I have already surch info. on google how to synthetise it but I didn't find what for this compound is really used.
thank you
I need a collimation material that is faily cheap and has a reflectivity of about 95% for both infrared and visible light. I know polished aluminum meets the criteria for the infrared, and the fused silica also works well for the visible spectrum, but I need somthing that can collimate both.
The electric potential V at a distance R along the axis perpendicular to the center of a charged disc with radius a and constant charge density d is give by
V = 2pi*d*(SQRT(R^2 +a^2) - R)
Show that for large R
V = pi*a^2*d / R
This is what I have done so far...
V = 2pi*d *...

Graduate School Aplication (about dropped courses)
Hi
So i am a math majour, and i took a 3rd year finance course.
I wrote the midterm (for the finance course) and just bearly passed - i got ~50% on the midterm and it is worth 25% of our final grade.
I am 3rd year.
If i drop the...
I just took over a project for a person that left the company. The project was supposed to be fully documented, but the documentation seems to have come up missing.
The application involves using a microcontroller as a PID controller.
I will have a desired speed, and the actual speed.

This is a theoretical question:
Say you bore a hole through earth, suck out all its air, and drop an object in one side. Let's say it takes 42 minutes for the object to come out the other side and come to complete stop (only to then drop back down, of course)
Now let's say you drop an object...
The school taht you go to get your graduate matters more than the school you go to get your undergrad.
I'm going to start my undergraduate at Texas A&M this Fall. It's not a very prestigious college, but it's close to home and I like the campus (I didn't want to go to UT and the campus was one...
I am doing some work on high school (Australia) level combinatorics. So I've been taught nCr, nPr, and of course factorial (!). Now I need to apply the combinatorics to probability.
There a two questions which I am stuck on.
I calcualted that the sample space of all combinations was...
I was wondering anyone could help me figure out the type of valve I need.

My book makes many statements about how magnetic monopoles do not exist and how scientist and researchers are trying to accomplish this. They also state that this would have wide applications.
What they don't say is what and why? I see that if a magnetic monopole were to exist it's...
Question:
At airports, departure gates are often lined up in a terminal like points along a line. If you arrive at one gate and proceed to another gate for a connecting flight, what proportion of the length of the terminal will you have to walk, on average?
One way to model this situation is...
I need some help. I fitted a 7th order legendre polynomial and got the L0 to L7 coefficients for different ANOVA classes. How can I get a back transformation in order to plot each class using the estimated coefficients?
Thanks to anybody.

Can anyone recommend an application for PC that can take an audio recording, perform a Fourier transform, and return the audio recordings' frequency spectrum AND phase information?
I can find plenty of programs that return the frequency spectrum, but I've had no luck finding one that...
this problem is an excerpt from an explanation of a time wieghted performance method. I feel that if I can follow this part the rest of it will make sense. now i know the answer is .1259 but I'm a little fuzzy on how exactly they got that, and their 'step by step' seems to miss some steps. it...
OK, https://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=107206"opensource s/w. We've had a timeline imposed that may preclude developing using an opensource solution. Now I'm looking for something that we can buy and customize to our needs.
I'm not sure what kind of software this is called. It is...
I can't seem to find a definitive equation for calculation of LLD (lower limit of detection). Cember has one equation, and other sources I research have completely different equations. I'm more apt to go with Cember's equation ,especially seeing as many of the govermental guides have conflicting...
Hi. I know of the commercially available "battery-less" flashlights that use either squeezing or shaking mechanisms to generate electricity. I was wondering, however, whether I can create one that uses the difference of temperature between the hand and the room temperature. I propose to use a...
This is a problem I am doing for review, in the section of my book on the Urysohn lemma:
A G_{\delta} set in a space X is the intersection of a countable collection of open sets in X. Let X be normal. Prove that if A is a closed G_{\delta} set in X, then there exists a continuous function f...
I'm having some trouble with this problem
what i did was
(15500 + 1000t)*e^0.05t > 1000
so basically, when the money you are making is greater than how much you would make by keeping the cards
i know the first t = when you sell it, but what is the second t? that should be the amount of time...
Hey, new member here, and I'm stumped on a physics problem.
Two weights are tied onto each end of a piece of rope and set on a table. The rope has a scale on it. The two weights are hanging over the edge of the table - one has Fg of 100 N, the other has Fg of 50 N. What does the scale read?
My...
Heres an intersting problem i would like to see max-min based solutions for. Fine the maximum length of a bar to be transported horizontally around a 90 degree corner. That is, from a corridor of width a to a corridor of width b.

Two loops, A and B, are aligned parallel to each other. There is a current in loop A, which induces a current in loop B. How does the current in loop A change with time?
By Lenz's Law, the current in loop B creates a magnetic field which opposes the change in magnetic flux which created it...

Hi,
I'm a first year university student interested in medicine as a career. My marks are relatively good (it's early, but GPA~3.9), but my weak subject happens to be physics and I am considering dropping it to retake it either over the summer or next term. It will be without penalty on the...
Consider the set-up illustrated in the attachement. The radius of the capacitor plates is a. The field btw the plates varies according to
\vec{E}(t) = \frac{It}{\epsilon_0 \pi a^2}\hat{z}
(z is to the right)
So since the current enclosed is 0, Ampere-Maxwell law in its integral form...

my question is at particular pont on any object some force has been applied. or it will experience a couple or moentum. how to calculate the force at some distance away from that particular point whare exactly the force has been applied.
Last year I completed two courses in the space of one, so this year I may have the possibility of having a free period. I was just wondering if having a free period looks bad to universities even if I have all my credits.
Hi everyone. I would really appreciate it if someone could check my work. I was really unsure on how to do some of these. I'm sorry it is so long.
