Hello,
Before I begin, a lot of the math I try to describe in this post is stuff I worked out myself and have scribbled down. If something looks fishy or doesn't make sense, it could very well be totally wrong! Apologies for any confusions in advance.
Consider a slab of linear isotropic...
Hello,
I am about to attend the University of Hawaii at Hilo as an Astrophysics major. I intend to complete my education through getting my PhD in Applied Physics, but I wanted to know if it was necessary to get a Master's? I would think so because of getting a BA in Astrophysics instead of AP...
Hey guys,So I'm an undergraduate, currently in junior year, majoring in mathematics with double minor in physics and computer science. I have only a 3.2 GPA, but I have extensive research experience. I received several grants for my work in operations research/mathematics, and presented at...
I'm currently finishing up my second year in college and I'm expected to graduate on time (in two years) and I'm majoring in pure physics. I don't really fully understand the difference between applied physics and pure physics because anytime I look into it online there's 10 different answers...
Hi,
Does anyone know of any fluid that emits light when current is running through it?
Why?
To feed to a flower, apply low voltage and make it glow.
Florescent light isn't enough and bioluminescence isn't my area of expertise so turning a flower into a LED is going to be my approach.
All tips...
In the virial theorem the numerical value of the average potential energy within a system is exactly twice that of the average kinetic energy. I know the theorem is proved mathematically but to me it seems a coincidence that one value is exactly twice the other value. I find that interesting.

I've been accepted to Cornell Engineering, and am thinking about doing AEP. I really like physics and math and was just wondering what people thought of it. Yeah I know I should ask people at Cornell, but they're just going to tell me that it's awesome and I should do it. I want to get a more...
Another thread reminded me of this. Sometime, probably in the 70's Suzuki said something like this, for something to be "real" it has to have a least one piece of retrievable information. One example he gave that I remember was a point in space. I remember this example because of his...
Does anyone know of a good online masters program in applied physics/mathematics that is affordable.
I have found a few programs - https://engineering.purdue.edu/ProEd/programs/masters-degrees/interdisciplinary-engineering

Hi!
So I'm building an electromagnetic bicycle where the frame is levitating over the wheels, thus reducing the rolling friction to almost zero by removing the bearings. Magnets have also been placed alongside the wheels to provide side to side stability. Black is the frame, red are the magnets...
This sounds weird and i suppose that i got some concepts wrong. For all i know, the higgs field may be metastable and the zeno effect states that the rate of decay for an unstable system can be changed by interaction. Can the zeno effect be applied to the higgs field if it is indeed metastable?
I was just wondering if the quantum Zeno effect can be applied to macroscopic systems. It's applies to microscopic systems such as atoms but how about macroscopic systems like the universe?

Hey. So I have a dilemma. I applied to the Applied Physics program at Rutgers-Newark. I got accepted, but one of my teachers told me that I applied to the wrong campus. He said they have a terrible program and shouldn't even give them the light of day. I felt so terrible. Then he continued to...
This thought occurred to me when reading about class D amplifiers, which essentially "emulates" amplification by very quickly switching on and off.
Could one use the same principle to eliminate for example heat losses during impedance matching? IIRC, in the perfect condition of matched...

Hi,
I have a question regarding vectors. I am thinking ahead regarding an application that I am writing in OpenGL. Currently, four functions make up the vertex calculations, with one independent variable (w2center, w2normal, w2uv, uv2vector). A per-vertex center variable and per-vertex vector...

I'm having a difficult time trying to discover which academic pathway to pursue. At first, the difficulty came from having broad interests, which I narrowed to a toss-up between space, science and engineering. I found space (astronomy, astrophysics) to be too specialized, physics (pure science)...
I am a high school student, so I know only the basics of X-Rays.I simply know about continuous X-rays, cutoff wavelength and threshold wavelength. Now if I increase the potential applied to the X-ray tube, I am certain that the minimum wavelength of emitted radiation decreases. (I say this using...

Hello, if I had salt water and put microscopic spheres with iron spikes in (a lot of them, say 1,000). Then if a high static charge was applied to the water (say 500,000 volts), what would happen? My intuition tells me that the electric field would concentrate on the tips of the spikes, making...

Hi everyone,
So I'm currently a junior studying physics and I'm beginning to have some doubts if I want to pursue it anymore. I took two years of it in high school and two years (four semesters) in college so far. Loved it, couldn't get enough of it, foaming at the mouth for more. Now I'm in my...
In the image above, a centroid with radius 1 is depicted. F1 is pointing directly at point A (which is the center of the circle), and F2 is pointing directly at point B. The radius for finding the torque would be the perpendicular between the center of the object and the force vector, so r1...
