I was just wondering where or if the brain projects mental pictures. I see them in front of my forehead. Is there where everyone sees them or is it different for everyone?
Is there anyone who knows on how's the information being transferred from eyes to brain? I'm not asking about how a single optical nerve works here, but how does these nerves arranged so that they can convey a 'live video' from eyes to brain. Is it a matrix of optic nerves with a single nerve...
Apologies if this is a duplicate thread, I searched and could not find a topic on this news article posted.

I have registered to this forum specifically to ask people more intelligent than me what is wrong with a number of theories, relationships and ideas I've arrived at. I unfortunately never entered tertiary schooling so I find myself asking these questions but not knowing whom to ask. Feel free to...
Hello! I have been tutoring a friend of mine in high school Chemistry. This person goes to a public school in America, and the class seems to be stereotypically bad. Unfortunately, my friend is just barely not failing the class despite putting in the work that an "A" student would put into it...

A particle is moving down a spiral path parameterized by: x = cos(au), y = sin(au), z = -u, where 0 \leq u \leq b (a,b real, >0). Starting from rest, the particle moves down the spiral under the influence of gravity and free from friction. Let g be the positive...
Hello guys,
when blood vessels going to brain are constricted, there is less blood flow and less 02 and CO2 entering the blood vessels in the brain. How does this create hypercapnea (too much CO2), is all the 02 that comes in extracted and turned to carbon dioxide which causes this. Also this...
Im not sure if anybody here can answer this, but, this is my question
What negative health effects etc can occur from viral gene therapy being used on a human brain (to add one or more extra copies of a gene)
what are the odds of those negative effects occurring in the person from viral...
Hi I originally posted this at yahoo ans but I guess I may get ans. from professionals here.

Nano magnetite particles are found in the brain. They are associated with schizophrenia, parkinson's disease, aging and etc.
Imagine that we are able to make a huge NMR machine and place a live human being in the bore to cause levitation. The diamagnetic particles will orient against the...
Hi all,
I am curious about the effect of long term drawing/sketching/painting on the brain. Is there any serious work being done on this topic? Would be good if someone direct me to some journal articles on this.
Thanks
The trick is to see this lady spinning in each direction: clockwise or counterclockwise. Most will see it orienting in one direction only. It's difficult to switch it in our minds. For many the task will be impossible.
http://mindbluff.com/clockwise.htm
Now I'm sure many of you have heard that it's easier to perform certain tasks when listening to music and etc. I was always a bit unsure about this because I'm someone who doesn't listen to music often and I prefer silence for when I study or read.
What do you guys think about music and its...

I have to write a term paper for my neuroscience class and the theme is "Is the brain immunologically privileged?". According to my professor I have a pretty nice introduction that explains the anatomical aspects of the brain that makes it...
Brain teaser, reminds "The lady or the tiger"
I would appreciate if you evaluate my recently opened brain teaser site http://rooms.jmpup.com"

Hello,
I am having a little problem at the moment. I am working in a library, have been here for 5 hours now and I am losing focus, for example I read a paragraph 3 or 4 times and did not digest any of the information at all. So I think I need a break. The challenge is, if I get up I will...
I started this thread for the discussion of the consequences of our knowledge of physical determinism/probabilism on consciousness. What are your viewpoints regarding what I think are two possible scenarios:

Consciousness can be solely attributed to the physical brain (it is a physical...
Okay, here goes. The first one to figure it out will receive an HTML code in their email address (please give me yours when you answer) that is a virtual pet. Good luck!

Hello everyone. I have become very interested in how the brain works recently. I know that in sleep, your brain is basically going through all of the information that it has obtained, and sorts through it (decides what is/is not important, and strengthens/weakens those connections).
But...
Is there a consensus on the current theory of the brain that can be agreed on by neurologists and psychologists alike? Perhaps even philosophers (real ones that acknowledge physical sciences). The philosopher I like a lot is Daniel Dennett. He rejects the...

I've been trying to find some very specific information about the workings of the Human Brain. I've tried going through Wikipedia reading about each part, but many of the terms are confusing (I'm obviously not an expert) and they aren't organized in any way which is helpful to me.
I've...

So, if you can do something that does not violate the laws of physics, but it is something that other (highly qualified, highly experienced) people cannot even remotely replicate, it is still not proof of paranormal abilities.
I ran across this interesting article.

We all know and love these guys. But they seem so trivial after you solve one. Even if you've solved it ages ago, that formula is still inherent in you somehow and you can bring it up (like bike riding).

Ventricles in the brain... why?
I am watching a TTC video on the brain and it mentioned that the brain has (as far as I've seen so far) 5 different ventricles (cavities) inside it. I was wondering about why the brain would have spaces in it considering how complex it is, why should it give...
A five-part NPR series about the science of spirituality:

Note that any specific and controversial scientific claim discussed requires a published paper or an appropriate scientific reference. Otherwise it must be treated as anecdotal evidence.
Why does the cerebral cortex require a large surface area (demonstrated by the large number of folds and creases in it)? Surely the brain simply requires as big a volume as possible, to fit in more cells, as there is nothing outside the brain it needs to interact with.
