A circular "pressure release gate" is located in the vertical face of a dam. The radius of the gate is 2 metres and the gate is positioned so that its top lies 5 metres below the surface of the water held in the reservoir behind the dam.Find the total fluid force acting on...
Hey there
This is a trig substitution for my Calculus 2 class and I really have NO idea how to get started...
\int\frac{4}{\sqrt{3-2x^2}}dx
My professor has yet to go over how to evaluate trigonometric substitutions with coefficients in front of variables.
Hi, this is my first post here.
I managed to solve the question.
integrate sin(3x)^3 cos(3x)^5 dx = -cos(3x)^6/2 + 3cos(3x)^8/8 + c
That is the answer that I get when I differentiate somewhere in the equation, u = cos 3x,
du/-3 = sin(3x) dx.
My question is, why do I get 2 different...
Here's a website created by Professor Lawrence S. Husch, along with the help of some of his students, from the University of Tennessee.

I just came across it through Google trying to understand series and sequences better as well as...
Hi everyone !
I got the weird idea of revisiting my old math books from 20 years ago
and I got stuck on an problem that is probably super easy for most of you.
It's from the chapter where we learn about how to solve limits of the form
0^0, \infty^0, 1^\infty
by transforming an...
Hello All,
First post here, looking forward to your suggestions and opinions.
I am currently taking Calculus 1 and so far so good. I have had some challenging days but so far I am managing an A-, not bad I guess considering this is my first time ever taking Calculus. However, I have heard...
I have a question for those of you who may have seen books/resources on this before.
I am just finishing calculus 2 this semester and will be continuing in math next year.
What I would like to know is whether there are any books written for my mathematical level of knowledge that would...
I'm taking cal 2 right now and i missed the part in cal 1 where he talked about "log theorem". Now this guy tells us that he's lazy when he corrects exams and if we don't use the log theorem to derive a term then he won't correct that term. I've looked on the net but couldn't find explanation or...
I overheard some of my classmates in Cal 1 talking about how the professor is only going over basic things and we arent even ready for Cal 2. so my question is what do i need to know for Cal 2? I want to try to get ready for it over the break. :(
hey everyone
Im currently looking at my white board. I can see ghosts of Riemann sums not fully erased. I call them ghost because they scared me yesterday when I almost forgot how to work one! Wait I think I see something emerging from the dark depths of my book shelf...oh my godsh its my...
Looking for help on a certain project. I have posted the project in pdf format
http://home.ripway.com/2005-5/317800/proj1sum05.pdf
I have already solved the first problem (a), but problem b (finding the angle) doesn't make intuitive sense to me.If you all could be so kind, all ideas are...
How would you find the integral of x^3 * ( x^2 - 8 )^1/2 ?
I've tried everything I can think of; substitution / trigonometric substitution, partial fractions, integration by parts, but I just can't get the answer. The answer is supposed to be:
1/15(x^2-8)^3/2 * (3x^2 + 16 )
Does anyone know of a good website that goes over the topics covered in Calc 2. I'd like to read over all the stuff in advance in my free time but reading the textbook is kind of a pain its not very interesting.
I was wondering if anyone wanted to chat on applications of calculus 2 (or just give me ideas). Its for a project later in the simester for my calc 2 class and I wanted to brain storm but didnt get far. Any links would be great
